Job description

Description
SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY
Cox School of Business
Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position in Management, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship
(Position Number: 51604)
SMU's Cox School of Business invites applications for non-tenure track full-time position (51604) in the Management, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship (MSE) Department. Competitive applicants should have a Ph.D. in Strategy (or a related field), or extensive business experience, an established record of high-quality teaching, and demonstrated contributions to the field or industry. Faculty will be expected to teach 18 credit hours per year, participate in university service and to deliver high-quality instruction in courses across the School's undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, which can include online teaching. The position will begin in Fall 2027. Salary and teaching load are competitive, as is support for research and instruction.
Hiring is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check.
The Cox School is a nationally ranked business school located in Dallas, Texas, home to 24 Fortune 500 headquarters, a fast-growing arts and cultural scene, and one of the most dynamic business communities in the country. The School offers a collegial working environment, generous faculty support and outstanding facilities. The MSE faculty consist of Maribeth Kuenzi (Chair), Marcus Butts, Emily Choi, Benjamin Dow, Scott Hensley Grace Ho, Yurianna Kimmons, David Lei, Helmuth Ludwig, Gary Moskowitz, Seth Osborn, Robin Pinkley, Jason Rife, Don Vandewalle, Gordon Walker, Fan (Frank) Xia, Zhen Zhang, and Betty Zhou. In the past three years, faculty members have had publications in top-tier journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Organization Science.
SMU is a private university dedicated to academic excellence. Located in Dallas, SMU maintains a moderate size of about 12,000 students. SMU is designated as a preferred employer in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, one of the most prolific high-tech industrial and business centers in the country, and a region well-suited to dual-career couples given the concentration of universities nearby, including TCU, UTD, UTA, and Baylor. Dallas' quality of life is exceptional, with a relatively low cost of living, upscale apartments and homes within walking distance of campus, the opportunity to live in the city or out in the country with a relatively short commute, and the availability of both mass transit systems and plentiful on-campus parking.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Graduate degrees in Management, MBA, or Master's degree in Strategy; 1-3-years of experience teaching strategy courses at a university level with demonstrated excellence, preferably at a business school.
Preferred qualifications: Ph.D., DBA in strategy, business, or a related field from an accredited university; established record of high-quality teaching at a university level; in-person and online teaching experience; demonstrated contributions to the field or industry. Research in practitioner or academic journals is a plus.
Application Instructions
Application: Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Priority will be given to applications received by November 15, 2026, although the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. The MSE faculty will conduct initial interviews through Zoom. Any questions or inquiries may be directed to the MSE administrative assistant Jill McGinness or department chair Maribeth Kuenzi at mse@smu.edu.
