Job description

JOB OVERVIEW

Volleyball BC is the provincial sport governing body that actively encourages participation and fosters the development of volleyball in BC. The head offices are based at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre (HJSC) located in Burnaby, BC.


We are looking for enthusiastic, qualified, and motivated individuals to join our team as HJSC Facility Attendants.  Under the direction of the Facility Manager, Facility Attendants are responsible for supporting the daily operations at the HJSC, which is a 53,000 sq. ft. recreational facility with an air-supported dome roof. The busy facility includes an indoor wooden cycling track and six volleyball courts and offers year-round programming 7 days a week. Job responsibilities include maintaining facility operations & janitorial duties while assisting with facility events and providing customer service. 


Successful candidates will be outgoing, responsible, self-motivated, and strong team players.  Staff must be available to work weekends and evenings, as well as occasional office hours. This position requires individuals who can work with minimal supervision and demonstrate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Duties also include office administration, cash handling, lifting heavy sporting equipment, and interacting with participants, staff, and volunteers.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Duties

  • Provide assistance and customer service to facility patrons.
  • Assist with adult leagues at HJSC.
  • Work with rental groups to facilitate activities.
  • Assist customers and user groups with questions and provide quality customer service.
  • Assist with delivering Volleyball BC programming that is offered at the Harry Jerome Sport Center. 
  • Complete nightly cleaning and restocking of bathrooms.
  • Conduct general facility cleaning and janitorial duties.
  • Maintain exterior appearance of the facility (weeding, sweeping, garbage collection, snow shoveling, road salting, etc.).
  • Assist VBC office staff with various projects.
  • Complete financial transactions.
  • Ensure the premises are secure.
  • Responsible for facility opening and closing duties.
  • Provide first aid support (i.e., supplying a first aid kit, calling 9-1-1, etc.) and complete related paperwork.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

    • Indoor gymnasium environment.
      • Direct exposure to loud noise due to live sports and music in an enclosed area.
  • Secondary working location is outdoors at HJSC in Burnaby:
    • Light landscaping duties in spring/summer months (i.e., weeding with hand tools).
      • Road salting and shovelling in fall/winter months.
      • Tidying and sweeping of exterior grounds year-round

    2. Certifications 

    • Required: Standard First Aid & CPR C must be current within 2 years
      • Proof of certification required 
    • Asset Certifications: 
      • Fork lift operator 
      • Class 5 driver's license
