GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The School of Audiology (SOA) in the College of Health Professions at Pacific University seeks candidates with expertise in clinical audiology who are excited to advance audiology education to meet the changing needs of the future. Candidates should complement existing interests in the school and contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Join our innovative team and

  • Provide patient-centered audiology services in conjunction with clinical precepting of students in the Pacific EarClinic and community-based experiences;
  • Collaborate in advancing student development of clinical reasoning skills and practical competence in the school's teaching labs,
  • Teach courses in one's area of expertise and
  • Engage in scholarship and service to the school, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Interprofessional education opportunities abound and are encouraged.

The SOA, established in 2012, is housed in the OHSU Tuality 7th Avenue Medical Plaza Building. The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree program utilizes an accelerated three­ year (121 credit), block-curriculum model. State of the art facilities include media classrooms, simulation, and teaching labs. Our community is diverse, sustainable, and dedicated to discovery and excellence in teaching, scholarship and practice. We humbly acknowledge and thank the original caretakers of the lands on which we live, work, teach, acquire and share knowledge.

Collaboration opportunities are plentiful within the University and with the NCRAR and OHSU in Portland. Approximately 80 audiology students across three cohorts participate in interprofessional education with other students in the college including Athletic Training, Dental Hygiene, Graduate Psychology, Healthcare Administration and Leadership, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy. Pacific University's Health Professions campus, located in the Hillsboro Health and Education District, is 15 miles west of downtown Portland and easily accessible by public transit.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach in the AuD program,
  • Develop and maintain a line of scholarship that results in dissemination and includes mentoring student scholarship
  • Support the educational mission and vision of the school, according to the needs of the school
  • Engage in service to the school, college, university, community, and profession.

JOB SCOPE

Faculty will be evaluated in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, per the guidelines detailed in Chapter 4 of the Pacific University Faculty & Governance Handbook.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Earned doctorate in audiology (AuD or PhD);
  • Oregon audiology license; individuals who do not yet hold but are eligible for an Oregon audiology license may be considered but the license must be acquired before the start date;
  • A commitment to interprofessional healthcare education, clinical service delivery, and emerging healthcare-related issues which aligns with the mission and vision of the School and College of Health Professions.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

All areas of professional expertise will be considered if supportive of the overall growth of the School of Audiology, its AuD program, and the PacificEar Clinic.

  • At least three years of post-graduation professional audiology clinical experience;
  • Clinical precepting experience, preferably at the university level;
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the university level;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish; and
  • ASHA CCC-A and/or ABA certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical clinical, administrative, and university teaching environment. Accelerated, modified block-curriculum teaching format. Clinical service delivery, precepting, and teaching conducted during fall, spring, and summer semesters.
