Nature & Purpose of Position
Join the Gibbs Ranch team at Sam Houston State University and gain hands-on experience in ranch management, livestock care, and agricultural operations. This role is perfect for students looking to expand their skills in agriculture and animal science through real-world application.
Other Requirements for the Position
Key Responsibilities:
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine upkeep and repairs on ranch equipment to ensure smooth operations.
• Cattle Working: Assist with all tasks related to cattle management, including handling, health monitoring, and herd management.
• Livestock Care: Feed, water, and check livestock daily to ensure their well-being.
• Fence Building and Repair: Construct and maintain fencing for cattle and land management purposes.
• Herd and Land Management: Support initiatives for sustainable land use and effective herd management practices.
• Beef Cattle Show Team Assistance: Collaborate with the SHSU Beef Cattle Show Team, including preparation and travel for events (training provided).
Qualifications:
• Strong interest in ranching, livestock care, or agriculture.
• Willingness to perform physical labor and work in various weather conditions.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Travel flexibility for assisting with the Beef Cattle Show Team.
• Flexible hours, but must be available days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must live in on site housing. Rent for housing is taken out from wages.
