Position Overview

Substation Technicians are responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substations and related equipment. This family of positions includes entry-level roles for those beginning their careers, as well as journeyman-level roles for experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with or perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substation equipment including transformers, breakers, switches, and control systems.
  • Conduct testing and diagnostics on electrical systems and components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Participate in scheduled and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Travel throughout the Midwest region to support various project sites.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and safely.
Qualifications

Entry-Level Candidates:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical training or coursework in electrical systems (preferred).
  • Willingness to learn and travel.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to safety.

Journeyman-Level Candidates:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in substation construction or maintenance.
  • Proficiency in electrical testing, troubleshooting, and equipment installation.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to lead crews and mentor junior technicians.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.
Compensation

Pay Range: Based on experience and qualifications.
