Live In Stage Lighting information

What is a live in stage lighting professional?

Live in stage lighting professionals are technicians or designers who specialize in creating and operating lighting setups for live performances, such as concerts, theater shows, and events. They work on-site (often 'living in' or traveling with a tour) to ensure lighting enhances the visual experience and meets the artistic vision of the production. Their responsibilities include installing lighting equipment, programming lighting cues, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating closely with directors and performers. This role requires both technical expertise and creative skills to adapt lighting to different venues and show requirements.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a live in stage lighting professional?

To thrive as a Live In Stage Lighting Technician, you need strong knowledge of lighting design, electrical systems, and experience with stage production, often supported by relevant technical training or certification. Proficiency with lighting consoles (such as ETC or GrandMA), DMX controllers, and stage rigging equipment is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for ensuring seamless live performances. These competencies are crucial for maintaining safety, delivering high-quality visual effects, and adapting quickly to the dynamic environment of live events.

What are common challenges faced by live in stage lighting professionals during events and how can they be managed?

Live in stage lighting professionals often encounter challenges such as last-minute changes to show cues, adapting to unexpected technical issues, and working under tight time constraints. Managing these challenges requires effective communication with the production team, thorough pre-show equipment checks, and maintaining flexibility to adjust lighting designs on the fly. Building strong troubleshooting skills and staying organized during hectic load-ins and rehearsals will help ensure smooth show execution and a safe work environment.

Live Events is a national live event production company and AV partner with hubs in Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Orlando, specializing in concerts, festivals, corporate events, and sports. Our full-service team delivers stage lighting, professional audio, LED video walls, and rigging for live entertainment across the country. Join a crew that powers some of the biggest stages across the country.

Position Summary / Objective

The Account Executive is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and closing new business opportunities in live event production—including audio, lighting, video, LED solutions, and full-scale production services. This front-line sales role focuses on prospecting, inbound lead conversion, and driving revenue growth through new client acquisition.

The Account Executive is a proactive, consultative seller with a hunter mentality and strong knowledge of event production technologies. This role manages the full sales cycle from outreach to contract execution, develops compelling proposals, and ensures a smooth transition to operations teams for successful project delivery.

Role Responsibilities

The following duties represent the primary responsibilities of the role. This list is not exhaustive. The individual in this position will perform additional tasks as assigned, adhere to all provisions of the Employee Handbook, and participate in company initiatives and projects.

Sales and Business Development

  • Proactively prospect and generate new business through cold outreach, networking events, referrals, and inbound lead follow-up.
  • Qualify potential clients to ensure alignment with company capabilities, resources, and service levels.
  • Conduct discovery meetings to understand client needs, budgets, timelines, and event objectives.
  • Develop and present customized proposals that clearly articulate technical and creative production solutions.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from first contact to signed contract and deposit collection.
  • Build and execute a strategic prospecting plan to meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and association meetings to expand the pipeline and enhance brand visibility.
  • Stay informed on trends in live event production and competitor offerings.

Client Engagement & Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to prospective clients by positioning solutions through value-based selling.
  • Maintain strong communication and rapport with clients throughout the sales cycle.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers and Project Managers to ensure a seamless handoff and project transition after deal close.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Enter accurate deal information in the CRM system and maintain up-to-date pipeline tracking.
  • Provide weekly and monthly forecasting and sales reporting to leadership.
  • Support cross-functional coordination with sales, operations, and production teams as needed.

Work Environment

This role primarily operates in a professional office setting with regular visits to client sites, venue walkthroughs, and live events. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops and smartphones.

Physical Demands

The individual in this role will remain stationary for portions of the workday and move about office and event environments as needed. Light physical activity may be required during site visits, including lifting equipment or materials up to 25 lbs on occasion.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard work hours follow a typical workday schedule, with flexibility required during peak sales periods, client deadlines, or high-travel weeks. Evening and weekend work may be required. Breaks and lunches comply with all applicable laws. Overtime is compensated in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Travel

This role requires up to 50% travel, including local, regional, and occasional overnight trips. Travel includes client meetings, venue walkthroughs, and onsite presence at live events.

Required

  • 5+ years of sales experience, preferably in the live events, AV, or creative services industry.
  • Strong understanding of event production technologies (audio, lighting, video, LED walls).
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales quotas in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong time-management and follow-up discipline.
  • Experience with CRM systems (HubSpot, Salesforce, or equivalent).
  • Ability to build trust quickly and sell using value-based strategies.
  • Willingness to attend networking functions, evening events, and travel as needed.
  • High self-confidence and comfort taking risks in pursuit of big wins.
  • Thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys juggling multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional relationship builder and networker.
  • Influential communicator who inspires client confidence and internal alignment.
  • Creative problem-solver with a consultative sales style.
  • Natural motivator who rallies cross-functional teams around client success.
