Job description

Greenwich Public Schools seeks a full-time (40 hours/week, school year) security guard to serve as a member of the security personnel team at Greenwich High School. Security personnel provide services on the Greenwich High School campus related to safety, security, crime prevention, fire safety, first aid, parking, and traffic control. This position will work Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. An updated collective bargaining agreement provides competitive salary and benefits. Base salary ranges from $26.10/hr. to $31.89/hr. for the 2026-27 school year.
Essential Functions

  • Directs traffic and/or parking activities.
  • Observes, reports, and remedies unsafe or problem situations.
  • Responds to fire alarms and other emergencies.
  • Works to maintain order and control in emergency situations.
  • Takes measures to prevent theft and property damage.
  • Monitors and regulate student behavior on campus.
  • Deters student loitering.
  • Undertakes security measures at school activities, functions, and sporting events.
  • Administers first aid.
  • Maintains activity/incident logs.
  • Patrols campus grounds, reporting and documenting unsafe conditions.
  • Issues parking citations (if certified to do so).
  • Makes student referrals as needed.
  • Assists as needed in supervision and direction of after-school activities.
  • Provides escort and safety services to students, staff, and visitors to ensure the safety and physical well-being of persons at Greenwich Public Schools.
  • Provides assistance to visitors, guests, and members of the school community.
  • Enforces school policies, procedures, and regulations in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Opens and secure campus buildings when necessary.
  • Assists local law enforcement and other emergency services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic educational and institutional security measures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to learn and interpret school policies and procedures.
  • Ability to respond calmly to sensitive and emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the performance of assigned duties.

Additional Duties
Some travel between Greenwich High School and the Windrose School will be required.

Use of district-issued digital tools.
Qualifications Profile
Professional assistants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, and a valid drivers' license. Connecticut Security Officer Certification and a background in public safety is preferred. If not possessed at the time of application, Connecticut Security Officer Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
