Location: Detroit, MI
Employment Type: Contract (with opportunity to hire)
Pay: $22 – $35/hour

What You’ll Do
  • Lead fabrication of prototype and production hardware, including electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, metal fabrication, electromechanical assembly, and CNC work.
  • Prototype custom parts for modular systems with a focus on strength and efficiency.
  • Read, interpret, and write engineering drawings; provide feedback on manufacturability improvements.
  • Use construction and mechanical hand/power tools and measurement tools.
  • Design and build tools, jigs, and fixtures as needed.
  • Maintain shop safety and efficiency, including layout, equipment, and tools.
  • Help build Grounded’s safety culture, processes, and high-quality standards.

Requirements

Requirements (Must-Haves)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience in prototype fabrication and/or shop work (RV, boat, aerospace, cabinet making, plumbing, vehicle electrical, or furniture assembly).
  • Experience working from 3D models and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work first shift (8–9 AM start, on site in Detroit).
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
  • Experience with a range of materials (wood, metal, composites).
  • Safe use of machinery, power tools, and handling chemicals.
  • Strong problem-solving and prototyping skills.
  • Ability to create and read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
