Job description

**This position is great for those interested in the mental health field**

We are seeking a male Live-In Peer Mentor / Peer Support Specialist to join a supportive residential household in Seattle.  This unique opportunity is ideal for a compassionate, reliable, and emotionally grounded individual who is interested in supporting a young adult male with personal, social and independent living goals while living as a housemate in the home.

The Peer Mentor will provide naturalistic support, encouragement, and role modeling within the context of daily life, helping to foster independence, community engagement, social connection, and overall well-being. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the client, family members, and a multidisciplinary clinical team to support individualized goals and promote a positive living environment.  This position is particularly well-suited for individuals pursuing or considering careers in mental health, psychology, social work, education, occupational therapy, rehabilitation counseling, or related helping professions, and offers valuable hands-on experience within a team-based support model.

This position is fully supported by a dedicated clinical team, ensuring you are never alone in this work and always have guidance, supervision, and training.

Role Overview

As a Housemate, you will:

  • Be present in the household, offering consistency, stability, and connection
  • Provide a grounded, supportive presence in daily life
  • Model and mirror a healthy lifestyle, including routines, communication, and self-care
  • Engage in supportive interactions that encourage recovery and independence
  • Support practical life skills such as cooking, organization, and daily routines (including coaching/teaching where helpful)
  • Occasionally accompany or provide transportation (if applicable)
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team collaboration within a clinical care framework

Qualifications & Preferences

  • Minimum commitment of 6 months
  • Experience in mental health or human services is preferred
  • Experience with neurodivergence (lived or professional) strongly preferred
  • Comfortable living in a non-traditional shared environment (including occasional messes/disorganization)
  • Strong patience, emotional regulation, and interpersonal awareness
  • Clear, respectful communication skills
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Comfortable with others entering or being present in the home (e.g., clinicians, visitors)
  • Strong preference for individuals who:
  • Have access to a car and are willing to occasionally drive/accompany (may be considered in compensation)
  • Are comfortable with technology and troubleshooting basic tech needs
  • Are good cooks and open to coaching/teaching simple meals
  • Are deep sleepers and can tolerate a late or nontraditional household schedule
  • Typically a good fit for individuals in their late 20s to mid-30s

Household specific considerations:

  • This particular placement has a strong preference for a male-identifying housemate (assigned male at birth)
  • Locations for housing -- Seattle area (South Lake Union, Seward Park, Cap Hill, Mt. Baker neighborhood, Beacon Hill neighborhood, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Rent and utilities fully covered
  • Monthly stipend of $2,000
  • Household supplies will be provided (paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Opportunity to work up to 25 hours/week outside the home
  • Meaningful personal and professional development in a supportive, team-based environment

Why This Role?

This position offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on experience working alongside a clinical team, ideal for those pursuing careers or education in mental health
  • Develop practical skills in mental health support, relational work, and independent living coaching
  • Make a direct and meaningful impact in someone’s life
  • Engage in deep self-reflection and personal growth
  • Be part of a supportive, mission-driven, collaborative care model

We encourage you to apply if you are a grounded, thoughtful individual seeking purpose-driven work and are open to living in a shared therapeutic environment.
