How to become a live in rota nanny?

To become a live-in rota nanny, candidates typically need relevant childcare experience, strong communication skills, and a valid work visa or legal right to work. Many employers prefer candidates with childcare qualifications or first aid certification and expect flexibility to work on a rota schedule, often living on-site with the family.

What does a typical rota schedule look like for a live in rota nanny, and how does it impact work-life balance?

A typical rota schedule for a Live In Rota Nanny often involves working intense shifts—such as one or two weeks on followed by an equal period off—where you provide round-the-clock care and support to the children. This structure allows for concentrated periods of work followed by extended time off, helping nannies maintain a good work-life balance and recover between shifts. During your working period, you may collaborate closely with other nannies or household staff, ensuring continuous support and coverage. This setup is ideal for those who prefer longer breaks and the opportunity to focus fully on the children during their working weeks.

What is a live in rota nanny?

A Live In Rota Nanny is a professional caregiver who works on a rotating schedule, typically alternating with another nanny to provide 24/7 childcare. This schedule could be one or two weeks on, followed by the same time off. The nanny lives with the family during their shift, ensuring consistent care and stability for the children. This role often involves childcare, educational activities, meal preparation, and light housekeeping related to the children. It's a great option for families who need continuous childcare with structured time off for the nanny.

Is being a live-in rota nanny a good career?

A live-in rota nanny can be a stable career option for those interested in childcare and working closely with families. It often involves flexible schedules, strong interpersonal skills, and sometimes requires certifications in first aid or childcare. The role offers experience in child development and can lead to further opportunities in childcare or related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in rota nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Rota Nanny, you need substantial childcare experience, a genuine passion for working with children, and often relevant certifications such as pediatric first aid and DBS/CRB checks. Familiarity with household management systems, communication apps for family coordination, and knowledge of child safety protocols are commonly expected. Outstanding soft skills include adaptability, discretion, excellent communication, and the ability to work seamlessly as part of a team of caregivers. These abilities are crucial for providing consistent, high-quality care within a structured rota schedule while balancing the needs of both children and the household.

Job description

A kind, active young family based in the West Village is seeking an energetic, engaging, and experienced Weekend Nanny/Manny to care for their two active boys, ages 7 and 5, and their 3-year-old daughter. The parents are hands-on, and there is additional support on Saturdays. The family is looking for someone who naturally embodies a "big sister" or "big brother" approach—someone who is playful, active, kind, and genuinely enjoys becoming part of a family's life.

The ideal candidate is confident in planning fun-filled weekends, encouraging outdoor play, sports, creativity, and adventure while also providing structure, consistency, and excellent childcare.

The schedule is Saturday from 7am to Monday at 9am, live-in. Another option would be Friday evening to Sunday evening. The position is only live-in when working. Housing is not provided for off days.

Travel to Westchester in July and the Hamptons in August is required.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a career nanny or manny who thrives in an active household and enjoys creating memorable weekends filled with fun, learning, and adventure. The family values warmth, flexibility, and professionalism and hopes to find someone who will become a trusted and lasting part of their children's lives.

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide attentive, engaging care for the family's children. Always ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Plan age-appropriate activities that encourage physical, emotional, and intellectual development
  • Participate in active outings including sports, baseball practice, playgrounds, birthday parties, swimming, and outdoor adventures
  • Foster creativity through arts, crafts, games, and imaginative play
  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks for the children
  • Drive or escort the children safely to activities, sports, playdates, and events
  • Keep children's bedrooms, play areas, and belongings tidy and organized
  • Handle children's laundry and clean up after meals and activities
  • Pack/unpack for travel
  • Work collaboratively with the parents, housekeeper, and other household staff to ensure seamless coverage
  • Administer basic first aid or medication if required
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and positive environment at all times

  • Naturally warm, energetic, and highly engaging
  • Enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and keeping up with active children
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with changing family schedules
  • Confident swimmer
  • Comfortable traveling with the family when required
  • Patient, dependable, organized, and proactive
  • Maintains the highest level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Collaborative team player

  • Previous experience working in private households with similarly aged children
  • Excellent driver with a clean driving record and valid driver's license would be a plus
  • CPR Certified
  • Looking for a long-term commitment
  • College educated; a degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred, but not required
  • Additional language skills are a plus, but not required
  • Legal to work in the U.S.

The family is offering $45+/hr DOE, negotiable for exceptional candidates. Some PTO will be given
