What is a live in rota nanny?

A Live In Rota Nanny is a professional caregiver who works on a rotating schedule, typically alternating with another nanny to provide 24/7 childcare. This schedule could be one or two weeks on, followed by the same time off. The nanny lives with the family during their shift, ensuring consistent care and stability for the children. This role often involves childcare, educational activities, meal preparation, and light housekeeping related to the children. It's a great option for families who need continuous childcare with structured time off for the nanny.

What does a typical rota schedule look like for a live in rota nanny, and how does it impact work-life balance?

A typical rota schedule for a Live In Rota Nanny often involves working intense shifts—such as one or two weeks on followed by an equal period off—where you provide round-the-clock care and support to the children. This structure allows for concentrated periods of work followed by extended time off, helping nannies maintain a good work-life balance and recover between shifts. During your working period, you may collaborate closely with other nannies or household staff, ensuring continuous support and coverage. This setup is ideal for those who prefer longer breaks and the opportunity to focus fully on the children during their working weeks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in rota nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Rota Nanny, you need substantial childcare experience, a genuine passion for working with children, and often relevant certifications such as pediatric first aid and DBS/CRB checks. Familiarity with household management systems, communication apps for family coordination, and knowledge of child safety protocols are commonly expected. Outstanding soft skills include adaptability, discretion, excellent communication, and the ability to work seamlessly as part of a team of caregivers. These abilities are crucial for providing consistent, high-quality care within a structured rota schedule while balancing the needs of both children and the household.

Job description

First-time parents based in Brooklyn are seeking an experienced rotational nanny to join their household and work opposite their existing ROTA nanny in caring for their 7-month-old daughter. This is an excellent opportunity for a polished, professional career nanny with strong infant experience who is confident providing a high level of care within a structured yet warm and nurturing environment.

The parents are currently co-parenting between two residences located within a 10-minute walk of one another in Brooklyn. The nanny will provide care across both households and should be comfortable maintaining consistency with the child’s routines, developmental approach, and overall care between homes.

The position follows a 2-week-on/2-week-off rotation, working opposite the family’s existing nanny. The ideal candidate will communicate and collaborate closely with their ROTA counterpart to ensure seamless handovers and continuity of care.

The family values a calm, engaging approach and is seeking someone who will thoughtfully support their daughter’s development, provide plenty of age-appropriate stimulation and interaction, and encourage healthy routines and independence as she grows.

Candidates must currently be local to Brooklyn. This is primarily a live-in position; however, the nanny must be comfortable providing overnight/live-in coverage during their scheduled rotation when needed, as well as traveling with the family and have the option/flexibility to go home when needed.

Schedule
  • 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, working opposite the family’s existing ROTA nanny
  • 24/7 responsibility during scheduled rotations as needed
  • Primarily live-out while the family is in Brooklyn, with overnight/live-in coverage as required
  • Flexibility required for travel and occasional schedule adjustments
  • Candidates must currently be local to Brooklyn

  • Providing attentive, developmentally appropriate care for the infant throughout each rotation
  • Plan and prepare nutritious, developmentally appropriate meals for the baby, incorporating baby-led weaning principles and supporting healthy eating habits and developmental needs.
  • Managing feeding schedules, naps, sleep routines, and the child’s overall daily schedule
  • Supporting developmental milestones through engaging, age-appropriate activities and play
  • Encouraging a healthy balance of interaction, exploration, and independent play
  • Preparing bottles and maintaining proper sterilization and organization of feeding supplies
  • Maintaining the nursery and all child-related spaces
  • Managing the child’s laundry, clothing, supplies, and organization
  • Supporting developmental transitions, including solids, evolving sleep routines, mobility, and other age-appropriate milestones
  • Anticipating the child’s needs and proactively managing supplies, schedules, and preparations
  • Packing and preparing all child-related items for domestic and international travel
  • Maintaining clear and consistent communication with the parents and existing ROTA nanny
  • Providing detailed, seamless handovers between rotations to ensure continuity of care

  • Warm, nurturing, and emotionally intuitive
  • Knowledgeable and confident in introducing foods to babies, with a thoughtful approach to nutrition, developmental milestones, and fostering healthy eating habits.
  • Calm, confident, polished, and highly reliable
  • Engaging and developmentally focused without being overly rigid
  • Naturally proactive with excellent judgment and initiative
  • Collaborative and communicative with the existing ROTA nanny
  • Comfortable independently managing all aspects of the child’s care while on rotation
  • Adaptable and able to transition seamlessly between both households while maintaining consistency for the child
  • Background in early childhood development, education, or a related field is a plus
  • Spanish-speaking or another second language is a plus

  • Minimum 5+ years of professional nanny experience
  • Strong knowledge of baby-led weaning, infant feeding, and age-appropriate nutrition to support healthy growth and development.
  • Extensive infant experience and a strong understanding of infant-to-toddler developmental stages
  • Experience working in private and/or UHNW households
  • Previous ROTA experience strongly preferred
  • Must currently be based locally in Brooklyn
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including occasional last-minute travel
  • Valid driver’s license preferred for future needs
  • Ability to swim
  • Discreet, professional, and comfortable working within a private, high-profile household
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to an evolving schedule
  • Willingness to sign an NDA

  • $100,000–$140,000+ annually, DOE
  • Health stipend or healthcare support
  • PTO aligned with the rotational schedule
  • Private accommodations provided when overnight/live-in coverage is required
  • All work-related travel expenses covered
  • Additional benefits to be discussed
