Roxbury Tenants of Harvard Association, Inc. (RTH) is a dynamic, multi-service non-profit organization founded in 1969. We are dedicated to preserving the unique character of the Mission Hill neighborhood by providing high-quality, low- and moderate-income housing and extensive human services. Our community is diverse and vibrant, offering numerous recreational and educational facilities, wellness programs, and community engagement initiatives.

Mission: RTH seeks to develop, preserve, and maintain safe and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income people of diverse backgrounds in the RTH/Mission Hill neighborhood, improving residents' quality of life through property management, social and educational services, workforce development, and community activism.

Role Summary: The P.E./Sports Coordinator will oversee athletic facilities, gym staff, participants, and equipment while leading sports classes at the RTH Community Center. This role emphasizes safety, participation, character building, skill development, inclusion, fun, and fair play in all RTH sports programs. The coordinator will collaborate with the Director of P.E./Sports and Aquatics to develop and implement innovative programs that promote health and wellness in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative:

  • Ensure all programs and games are safe and well-equipped.
  • Maintain program standards and follow safety procedures.
  • Build and maintain high customer service standards.
  • Review and update gymnasium policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and respond to communications promptly.
  • Prepare and monitor program schedules and information.
  • Administer age- and ability-appropriate programs and activities.
  • Schedule and secure athletic fields and facilities.
  • Organize and conduct orientation meetings and training for parents and coaches.
  • Develop and distribute team schedules, uniforms, awards, and photos.
  • Compile and evaluate program statistics.

Program Management:

  • Assist in creating marketing materials for sports programs.
  • Oversee summer sports camp, after-school programs, and specific teen programs.
  • Teach sport-specific classes and monitor programs.
  • Facilitate resident involvement through neighborhood outreach.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment support program participation.
  • Coordinate sports programs for junior high campuses, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Manage and oversee tournaments, championships, and clinics.
  • Organize seasonal events promoting healthy eating and good nutrition.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a sports setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, sports management, or related field (preferred).
  • Ability to motivate students and ensure fair play.
  • Knowledge of sports rules and ability to demonstrate skills.
  • Independent worker with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Professionalism and exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural competence to work with a diverse population.
  • Specialty in basketball.
  • Strong communication, leadership, judgment, conflict resolution, and creativity skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with community organizations.
  • Passion for athletics and exercise for community improvement.
  • Data management and organizational skills.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or acquired within 30 days of hire).
  • Certified Swim Instructor or experience in teaching swimming is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to interact with residents and participants physically and verbally.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform physical activities such as standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, and bending.
