Key responsibilities

  • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action

  • Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases

  • Represent clients in court proceedings or depositions as needed

Job description

We are looking for a  Divorce & Child Custody Attorney -- Intermediate or Senior Level

This is a hybrid position; however, this position requires the candidate to work in the office in Kalamazoo three times per week to meet with clients. Other in-person work may be necessary for local courts as needed for in-person appearances.

You are not required to bring a book of business, but if you have active clients, we are able to accommodate your transition, and this will, obviously, impact compensation favorably.

If you are a solo-practice family law practitioner who is ready to let someone else run the business, so that you can be a lawyer... we are looking for you!

If you are sick of your impossible-to-meet billable hour requirement . . . please apply! We have an industry-low requirement of only 1400 hours per year.

If you are a government lawyer who wants to be able to work from home more and be in court less, please apply.

Our firm is fast-growing and enterprising, and there is a lot of room to develop with us!!

Every lawyer in our office is provided with the following tools to help them succeed:

  • A Laptop to be able to work from anywhere you wish
  • An assistant and a paralegal, so that you do not have to do your own mailings or answer your own phone
  • Flexibility so that you can live your life and be an attorney
  • A communications policy that DOES NOT allow for clients to contact you and expect answers 24/7
  • VOIP phones
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance for the employee is paid at 100% cost

Compensation: Base of $110,000 to $140,000, dependent on experience, plus bonus eligibility

Compensation:

$100,000 - $140,000

Responsibilities:
  • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action
  • Communicate with the managing attorney, legal assistant, and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
  • Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Represent clients in court proceedings or depositions as needed

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate is an independent thinker who knows when to reach out to the team. You will be expected to produce legal work, appear in court, attend mediations, review pleadings, assist in creating litigation strategies, and advise clients.

The candidate will have:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan (if you are in the Michiana area with Indiana licensure and willing to waive into Michigan, please apply)
  • 4+ years of experience in a litigation-centered position, with a preference for candidates with experience practicing family law. Prosecutors, legal aid lawyers, and public defenders are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Excellent courtroom skills
  • A people person who is not afraid to tell clients the truth
  • Research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent planning, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects or cases at once
