Job description

A well-established law firm based in Cadillac, Michigan is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing general practice. The firm handles a mix of family law, criminal defense, and trusts & estates, with a strong emphasis on litigation. The firm has a dedicated office space, but the attorney would have the ability work fully remote and only come into the office if needed. The owner is an experienced attorney and places a strong emphasis on training, mentorship, and long-term professional development with a successful history of training new graduate attorneys. They have created an excellent reputation in the community and in Northern Michigan for offering extensive, high quality, legal services.

The Opportunity

This position is primarily remote/hybrid, but candidates must live within 1 hour of Cadillac for the occasional in-person requirement (such as evidentiary hearings or trial preparation). When in-person work is needed, a dedicated office space is available. The firm is open to both newly licensed attorneys and experienced candidates. They are willing to train the right person from the ground up and also welcome attorneys who already have experience and are looking for a supportive environment to continue growing their practice.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a litigation-focused caseload with training and support
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda
  • Represent clients in virtual court appearances
  • Participate in case strategy, preparation, and client communications
  • Occasionally assist with in-person hearings, trial prep, or meetings
  • Provide professional, ethical, and client-focused legal representation

Practice Areas

  • Family Law
  • Criminal Defense
  • General Litigation
  • Trusts & Estates (as needed)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Dependent on experience
  • New graduates: Typically start in the $70,000–$80,000 range
  • Experienced attorneys: Compensation increases with experience and responsibility, with long-term earning potential up to $150,000+
  • Time Off: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and additional sick time
  • Ongoing mentorship, training, and caseload growth

Ideal Candidate

  • Licensed in Michigan or awaiting bar results
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Hard-working, reliable, and professional
  • Prior work experience before law school strongly preferred
  • Committed to treating clients well and delivering quality legal work

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Mostly remote with minimal travel
  • Genuine training and mentorship
  • Early litigation exposure
  • Clear growth and compensation trajectory

New graduates and experienced attorneys are both encouraged to apply. Reach out to jack@bonhamsolutions.com with any questions!
