Job description

Respiratory Therapist-Columbia County

Shift: FT Night

SOB Eligible -$15K

Responsible for administering and managing all forms of respiratory care in accordance with physician orders and current clinical standards. The Respiratory Therapist will function as a workgroup leader and unit coordinator administering and recommending care per protocol for the assigned unit.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Acts as Care Coordinator for Assigned unit. Develops, administers, evaluates and modifies Respiratory Patient Care Plans in the acute care setting, using evidence-based medicine, protocols and clinical practice guidelines by communicating, collaborating and coordinating with physicians, nurses and other clinicians. Demonstrates competency in invasive and non-invasive critical procedures and equipment. Serves as a respiratory consultant to all hospital service lines. Attends daily patient rounds. Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory medications and pharmacologic interactions. Cites AARC guidelines and remains current in the field of Respiratory Care. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical chemistries to include ABGs and electrolytes and assists others in the application of results. Is a member of the Rapid Response and Resuscitation Teams and skillfully establishes and maintains artificial airways in emergencies. Competent in use and quality control for all point of care analyzers. Participates and facilitates quality improvement projects. Facilitates patient discharge to home and provides patient and family education. Provides clinical assistance in the orientation of new employees and students on clinical rotation. Provides education to all clinical team members to include physicians and nurses at the bedside and informal classroom setting. Maintains Basic and Advanced certifications as appropriate to assigned areas such as BLS, ACLS, FCCS, PALS, and NRP. Participates in clinical trials and research activities. Demonstrates the ability to resolve difficult situations with finesse and skill. Has the ability to prioritize and triage delivery of care during times of high acuity. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills and assures all documentation is accurate, legible and in accordance with hospital policy. Skilled in Patient Family-Centered Care. Uses hospital information systems skillfully and complies with security policies. Follows proper handoff procedure for all transferred patients to assure coordination of care. Processes all associated clinical equipment and devices to industry standards and performs routine and basic maintenance with associated documentation. Participates in patient transports both in and outside the hospital. Conforms and champions infection prevention measures. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
  • PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor or PALS-P - PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program or ARC-NALS - Amer Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support or NRP-I - NRP - Instructor or NRP-P - NRP-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
  • NBRC-RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • RCP - Respiratory Care Prof
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Current Georgia Respiratory Care Professional. Upon Hire Required

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 2 years Critical Care Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to read, write and speak the English language; Strong customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care Ability to delegate to other team members as required Ability to multi-task essential Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations essential Strong detail orientation required Knowledge of surgical procedures required Basic computer skills are required.
