Summary
About the Position: Serves as a Security Guard at the Detroit Arsenal. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions.

  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage.
  • Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate.
  • Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
  • Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 MONTHS, extended in 13-month increments, up to a total of 8 YEARS.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 25%.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Qualifications
POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be June 25, 2026. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved controlling access to restricted areas, patrolling, maintaining order, and protecting life or property; and (2) verifying identities using electronic systems, identification cards, badges, biometric records, or verbal questioning. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
