Live In Relocation Nanny information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Relocation Nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Relocation Nanny, you typically need experience in childcare, a relevant certification such as CPR/First Aid, and often a high school diploma or higher. Familiarity with communication apps, scheduling tools, and sometimes knowledge of multiple languages are important for coordinating with families and adapting to new environments. Strong soft skills like flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication help build trust and ease the transition for both children and parents. These skills ensure a smooth relocation process, foster a nurturing environment, and support the family's overall well-being.

What is a live-in relocation nanny?

A live-in relocation nanny is a professional caregiver who moves into a family's home, often in a new city or country, to provide childcare during a family's relocation. They assist children in adjusting to new environments, routines, and schools, while supporting the family through the transition. In addition to typical nanny duties, they may help with unpacking, settling in, and establishing new routines, making the relocation process smoother for everyone involved.

What are some common challenges faced by live-in relocation nannies, and how can they prepare for them?

Live-in relocation nannies often face challenges such as adapting to a new household routine, integrating into a different culture or location, and establishing boundaries while living where they work. To prepare, it's helpful to communicate openly with the host family about expectations, routines, and private time. Building flexibility and resilience, as well as researching the new area in advance, can also ease the transition and help create a positive working and living environment.

About the Family:
This delightful family is moving to Edmond in June/July and will welcome their nanny to start in August or September. Their twin boys were born a little early but are thriving and will be around 4-5 months old when care begins.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position with a schedule of approximately Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM Central Time (specific hours to be discussed). There may also be occasional needs for weekend help (with overtime pay) for Mom's on-call duties or date nights.
Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing attentive and loving full-time care for two infant twin boys (4-5 months old).
  • Specifically utilizing experience in caring for twins to manage their individual and simultaneous needs.
  • Engaging the babies in age-appropriate activities that promote development (talking, singing, reading, tummy time, etc.).
  • Following the established feeding schedule (currently bottle-feeding) and eventually assisting with the introduction of solids.
  • Implementing consistent and age-appropriate nap routines.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy environment for the children.
  • Assisting with light household tasks related to the babies (laundry, washing bottles, tidying their areas).
  • Potentially assisting with light meal preparation for the parents.
  • Safely taking the babies for walks in the neighborhood (once they are old enough and the weather permits).
  • Caring for the family's friendly 4-year-old Labrador Retriever (letting him out in the fenced yard as needed).
  • Being prepared and comfortable with storm safety procedures, including using a storm shelter if necessary.
  • Communicating effectively and openly with the parents.

Jovie Nannies of Edmond - Hiring Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional childcare experience.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable experience specifically caring for twins or multiples is highly preferred and essential.
  • Must have professional childcare references that can verify reliability, safety-consciousness, and experience with infant care and multiples.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain and maintain).
  • Must possess their own reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and auto insurance.
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a comprehensive background check, including a criminal history search and DMV record check.
  • Willingness to complete Jovie's onboarding and training process (paid).

Family's Preferences for an Ideal Nanny:

  • Experienced with infants and the unique needs of twins.
  • A genuine love for babies and a patient, joyful, and engaging personality.
  • Highly safety-conscious and proactive in creating a secure environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and communicative.
  • Comfortable with a large, friendly dog.
  • Flexible and willing to work occasional weekend hours (with overtime).
  • Proactive in engaging the children in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Willing to assist with light household tasks related to the children and potentially some light meal prep for the parents.
  • Comfortable following the family's preferences regarding routines (sleep training, introduction to solids).
  • Ideally, someone who is vaccinated.
  • Someone with a gentle and age-appropriate approach to future discipline (redirection, teaching coping skills).
  • A non-smoker with a healthy and engaging lifestyle.
