Job description

The Construction Project Manager manages construction projects from the planning stages through construction and startup of building or material handling systems for Build-to-Suit projects for manual facilities through successful hand-off to field operations. This level with manage small Build-to-Suit or material handling portion of expansion capital projects for manual facilities that require significant guidance/mentorship. Collaborates with internal planning, design, procurement, real estate, IT, finance, environmental, legal departments Collaborates with internal planning, design, procurement, real estate, IT, finance, environmental, legal departments. Contracts and/or manages, Developers, General Contractors and Architectural Engineering firms. Coordinates and communicates with local jurisdictions to meet requirements and to obtain Certificate of Occupancies. Enforces specifications, manages and monitors schedules & installation, creates cost estimates, manages capital and expense funding, completes vendor testing and/or commissioning of new and/or existing infrastructure. Travels to the job site to monitor progress and coordinate with vendors completing the work. Typically, will control projects for facility or material handling manual stations with smallest cost, risk, timeline and clear scope of work.
Essential Functions
  • Under supervision with manager and mentor, manage project for facility or material handling portion of a manual station with smallest cost, risk, timeline, clear statement of work (SOW) and low risk to the network. Typically, financial responsibility of projects up to $20 million annually.
  • Monitoring progress and performance against the project plan; taking action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays
  • Oversees installation, operation of equipment systems
  • Identifying, developing, and gathering the resources necessary to complete the project
  • May include enforcing engineering standards, designs and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors
  • Vendor management, including hiring, managing, coordinating engineering firms, contractors and vendors and ensuring collaboration with each other, as well as ensure commitment to scope, schedule and contract for smaller number of vendors and smaller complexity
  • Participate in project calls with field operations, communicate with outside vendors, may work with manager, mentor or higher-level Construction Project Manager to learn effective communications with inspectors, Fire Marshalls and local jurisdictions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

This is a hybrid position located in Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, construction project management or a related area required. In addition to required experience, additional related experience may be used as an equivalent for degree requirements.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated academic experience in engineering project management required. In addition to the required degree, an advanced degree may offset experience requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated engineering project management knowledge through academic experience
  • Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
  • Read and comprehend construction documents and specifications. Basic understanding of and ability to comprehend technical specifications, drawings and construction documents
  • Basic understanding of project or other CPM related software
  • Basic knowledge of departments/areas to collaborate and communicate with
  • Verbal and written communication and presentation skills necessary to communicate with engineering partners, all levels of management and vendors
  • Ability to adapt to continually changing project initiatives with resilience and determination
  • Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve goals.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
