The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator to support Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise on Pompano Beach, FL. This role plays a critical part in incident management, customer safety, and real-time operations within a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.

What You’ll Do:
The TMC Operator will actively monitor roadway conditions, detect incidents, and provide timely, accurate traveler information across the statewide toll road system. You will work closely with first responders, maintenance teams, and internal stakeholders to support safe traffic operations, rapid incident clearance, and compliance with Florida’s Open Roads Policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor Turnpike roadways using CCTV cameras, Florida Highway Patrol communications, and other traffic information sources to detect and verify incidents.
  • Accurately enter, update, and manage incidents in the SunGuide database.
  • Disseminate real-time traveler information through ITS devices including Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Highway Advisory Radio, 511, Public Information Displays, and email alerts.
  • Activate ITS devices for FDLE-approved Amber, Silver, and Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Alerts.
  • Coordinate incident notifications via two-way radio, phone, and email with Turnpike staff, districts, and emergency responders.
  • Activate and manage the Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) program, including timekeeping and documentation.
  • Dispatch and monitor Road Ranger Safety Patrol operators, ensuring accurate logging and on-camera safety verification.
  • Track fleet activity using automated vehicle location systems.
  • Monitor ITS devices and systems, troubleshoot issues, and report outages to the ITS Operations Team.
  • Complete Operations Management System (OMS) tickets related to roadway maintenance, construction damage, and facility issues.
  • Provide after-hours support for facilities work orders and emergency facility issues.
  • Maintain real-time quality control of public-facing traffic information displayed on DMS, PID, and Florida 511.
  • Respond to public phone calls regarding roadway conditions, toll information, and Road Ranger assistance.
  • Conduct routine camera tours to proactively identify incidents and special events impacting traffic.
  • Document maintenance activities for ITS contractors and review daily shift change and ITS help desk reports.
  • Participate in monthly TMC staff meetings and ongoing operational coordination.
  • Reliable transportation, as this position will be located in the Services Plaza for the Florida Turnpike with no public transportation access.

What You’ll Bring

  • Knowledge of major local and regional roadways.
  • Experience working in a call center, control center, dispatch center, or similar real-time operations environment.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and disseminate information from multiple sources including CCTV, scanners, two-way radio, field personnel, and the public.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using two-way radio systems and incident management software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical and operational documents such as TMC procedures and traffic management guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
