Absolute Machine Tools, Inc., an employee-owned company, headquartered in Lorain, OH and satellite offices in Mason, OH and Livonia, MI, is a leading distributor of advanced CNC machine tools, wire EDM machines and industrial automation solutions.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Service & Applications Engineering, the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) Field Service Engineer, who is a mobile technical specialist, will install, maintain and repair wire, sinker (ram), and hole-drilling EDM, high-precision CNC machinery at our customer sites. The ideal candidate will represent our professional interests in the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues, perform on-site repairs, calibrate equipment, train operators and ensure minimal equipment downtime.

Duties / Responsibilities:

General:

Work in conjunction with the sales team on calls with customers to ensure proper machines, tools and process recommendations are made effectively;

Work with vendors and suppliers to source the best software, tooling and support equipment;

Oversee designated turn-key projects;

Thoroughly learn and understand our machines for distribution to the customers, the options and pricing;

Learn our CAD/CAM systems, CNC controllers, high-speed spindles, machining techniques, as well as resources available to efficiently perform the duties of the job.

Onsite Installation & Commissioning:

Set up and install new wire, ram, or drilling EDM machines at customer facilities and ensure they meet precise manufacturer specifications, correct setup, leveling and calibration.

Technical Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic issues utilizing specialized testing equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.

Preventative Maintenance:

Perform routine maintenance on EDM machinery to ensure optimal operation and minimize downtime.

Maintenance & Calibration:

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration to optimize machine performance and longevity.

Customer Training:

Train and educate customer operators on basic machine usage and functions, software functions, programming (CAD/CAM) and routine cleaning.

Technical Support & Documentation:

Provide remote support via phone or email and maintain accurate logs of service calls, expenses and technical findings.

Qualifications:

At least 2 years of experience with servicing EDM machines;

Must possess hand tools necessary for performing the duties associated with this position;

Associate's Degree in Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or alternatively, equivalent relevant work experience;

Proficiency in the operation of EDM machinery, electrical circuitry, mechanical systems and software;

Ability to read and interpret electrical pneumatic, hydraulic schematics, blueprints and manuals to diagnose problems;

Experience with EDM technology (wire/sinker/drilling);

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Astute mathematical, analytical, time management, attention to detail, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, follow-through and customer service skills;

Ability to work effectively alone and within a collaborative team environment;

Ability to lift heavy equipment, as necessary;

Valid driver’s license and clean and insurable driving record;

Ability to travel throughout the Continental U.S. at least 75% of the time.

Compensation:

$80K - $95K base salary DOE, for this full-time, exempt position.

Benefits:

80 hours of annual paid vacation during years 1-5 (pro-rated on start date) allocated in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and/or on January 1 thereafter;

40 hours of annual paid personal time, allotted in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and/or on January 1 thereafter;

3 Medical Insurance Plans to include:

HSA Core Plan paid 75% for the employee and employee’s dependents;

HSA Standard Plan paid 75% for employee and 60% for employee’s dependents;

PPO Buy-Up Plan in which employee pays the difference in coverage of 75% for employee and 60% for employee’s dependents;

Dental, vision insurance paid 75% for the employee and employee’s dependents;

Basic life and AD&D insurance of $25Kfor employee;

Supplemental life, disability and accident insurance paid 100% by employee;

ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) retirement program

401(K) not employer matched;

Company vehicle, credit card, cell phone, laptop and specialty tools provided.

Working Hours:

8:00AM - 5:00PM Monday – Friday with flexibility, due to extended work travel, or in conjunction with specific project work requirements.

Location:

Remote position but must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the State of Ohio within a commutable distance to Mason, OH, Lorain, OH Toledo, OH.
