What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Ranch Caretaker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Ranch Caretaker, you need hands-on experience in property maintenance, animal husbandry, and basic mechanical or agricultural skills. Familiarity with tools such as tractors, irrigation systems, and possibly certifications in livestock care or pesticide application are often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, reliability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the smooth operation, safety, and upkeep of the ranch, supporting both livestock well-being and property value.

What are some common challenges faced by live-in ranch caretakers, and how can they prepare for them?

Live-in ranch caretakers often face challenges such as working in remote locations, adapting to variable weather conditions, and managing a wide range of responsibilities from animal care to equipment maintenance. Flexibility and self-sufficiency are key, as caretakers may need to address emergencies or unexpected issues independently. Building strong communication with ranch owners and being proactive in learning about the land, animals, and machinery will help caretakers thrive in this dynamic role.

Job description

"The simple act of caring is heroic." Come be a hero at Agape today!
Agape of Appleton, a nonprofit human services agency, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (also known as Caregivers) to join our team. With a starting wage of $16-$20.60 per hour (based on experience and position placement), you'll have the chance to create meaningful, lasting connections while supporting adults with differing abilities in a dynamic, 8-bed coed residential home. (The nursing home and assisted living feel in a smaller setting.)
** Now hosting weekly open interviews in Appleton on Thursdays from 9am to 3pm CT.**
About the Role
This isn't just a job-it's a chance to build genuine relationships with residents who are fun, sweet, and express themselves in unique ways. In our fast-paced, small home setting, you will provide critical daily support, help individuals live fuller lives, and thrive in a task-oriented environment. Experience with durable medical equipment is a plus, but we offer paid training to ensure you are fully confident and prepared.
What you will do:
  • Assist residents with daily living activities, including meal preparation, bathing, and toileting
  • Support residents in expressing their preferences and needs, honoring their choices and promoting self-determination.
  • Help create a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for everyone.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid driver's license for resident transportation.
  • Physical and mental capability to assist residents based on their specific needs.
  • A strong passion for helping others.
  • Previous experience is great, but a kind heart and a willingness to learn are what matter most. We provide paid training for all skills needed!

What we offer:
  • A fulfilling career path where you can grow and advance with us.
  • Comprehensive benefits include $0 premium health insurance options, low-premium dental, vision, life, and disability plans, and flex/health savings accounts.
  • Excellent work-life balance with flexible scheduling and every other weekend off. (Current schedule is 7-on/7-off)
  • Generous paid time off, including 1 week of vacation and 6 PTO days in your first year, plus time-and-a-half for recognized holidays. (Turn that 1 week vacation into 3 weeks with the 7-on/7-off schedule.)
  • A supportive and fun team environment in a small, diverse workplace.
  • Financial security with a 403(b) retirement plan and bonus opportunities.
