Gross, Mendelsohn & Associates, P.A.

Fairfax, VA • Remote

Full-time

Job description

At Gross Mendelsohn, we believe accounting should be a catalyst for better business decisions—not just a record of what already happened.

Our Outsourced Accounting Services (OAS) team partners with growing businesses and nonprofit organizations to modernize their finance function through experienced professionals, proven processes, and leading technology. We don't simply "do the books." We become an extension of our clients' leadership teams, providing the financial insight, operational support, and strategic guidance they need to grow with confidence.

As part of a full-service CPA and advisory firm, our clients also benefit from seamless access to audit, tax, technology consulting, cybersecurity, wealth management, and business advisory professionals—all working together to solve complex business challenges.

We're looking for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys building relationships, mentoring professionals, solving problems, and helping clients transform the way they manage finance.

Why This Role Matters

As an OAS Manager, you'll serve as the trusted advisor for a portfolio of clients while leading a team of accounting professionals committed to delivering an exceptional client experience.

You'll oversee engagements from strategy through execution, coach and develop team members, leverage technology to improve efficiency, and provide meaningful financial insight that helps clients make smarter decisions.

This role offers the opportunity to influence both client success and the continued growth of one of the firm's fastest-growing service lines.

What You'll Do

Lead Client Relationships

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of outsourced accounting clients.

  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with business owners, executive directors, CEOs, CFOs, Controllers, finance committees, and boards.

  • Lead recurring financial review meetings and translate financial results into actionable business insights.

  • Understand each client's goals, challenges, and long-term objectives.

  • Anticipate client needs and proactively recommend solutions that improve operations and financial visibility.

  • Deliver a consistently outstanding client experience that builds long-term relationships.

Deliver Strategic Accounting & Advisory Services

  • Oversee all phases of outsourced accounting engagements from onboarding through ongoing delivery.

  • Review month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy and quality.

  • Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, KPI reporting, and financial planning.

  • Provide technical accounting guidance on complex accounting matters.

  • Coordinate with client auditors, tax professionals, and internal stakeholders throughout the year.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and streamline financial operations.

Champion Technology & Innovation

Technology is central to how we serve our clients.

You'll help clients modernize their finance function by implementing cloud-based accounting solutions, automating manual processes, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.

Experience with platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, BILL, Ramp, and other cloud-based applications is highly valued.

Lead High-Performing Teams

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor Seniors, Staff Accountants, and Associates.

  • Review work products while providing timely and meaningful feedback.

  • Delegate work based on staff strengths and development goals.

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and performance evaluations.

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and client-focused culture.

  • Help build the next generation of leaders within the OAS practice.

Drive Practice Growth

We view every client relationship as an opportunity to create additional value.

You'll partner with firm leadership to:

  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships.

  • Introduce clients to additional Gross Mendelsohn service lines when appropriate.

  • Participate in networking, speaking engagements, and business development activities.

  • Support proposal development and prospective client meetings.

  • Contribute ideas that improve the OAS practice, our processes, and the client experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

  • Active CPA license.

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Public accounting and/or outsourced accounting experience preferred.

  • Experience managing multiple client engagements simultaneously.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.

  • Experience leading and developing accounting professionals.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Passion for delivering exceptional client service.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with:

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Government contractors

  • Closely held businesses

  • Professional service firms

  • Multi-entity organizations

Experience with:

  • Sage Intacct

  • QuickBooks Online

  • BILL

  • Ramp

  • AI-enabled accounting and workflow automation tools

What Success Looks Like

Within your first year, you'll:

  • Become the trusted advisor for a portfolio of clients.
  • Build strong relationships with client leadership teams.
  • Lead successful month-end close and financial reporting processes.
  • Develop and mentor members of the OAS team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client processes through technology and automation.
  • Collaborate across Gross Mendelsohn's service lines to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of our Outsourced Accounting Services practice.

Why Gross Mendelsohn

Joining Gross Mendelsohn means more than joining another CPA firm.

You'll become part of a collaborative team that's redefining what outsourced accounting looks like.

Our professionals don't work in silos. We work together across accounting, tax, audit, technology, cybersecurity, wealth management, and advisory services to help our clients solve real business challenges.

We're committed to investing in our people through mentorship, professional development, modern technology, and meaningful opportunities for growth. Whether you're leading a client meeting, mentoring a teammate, implementing new technology, or helping shape the future of our OAS practice, your work will have a direct impact on our clients and our firm.

If you're excited about combining accounting expertise with advisory services, technology, leadership, and relationship building, we'd love to meet you.
