Job description

2026-2027 Resident Assistant

Office of Student Development

As a Resident Assistant for Student Development, you agree to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Administration
  • Fulfill administrative requirements promptly & efficiently (i.e., Incident Reports, Maintenance Work Requests, Programming Evaluations, Duty Logs, etc.).
  • Fulfill weekday, weekend, and break on-duty requirements as assigned by RD.
  • Assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls each semester as assigned by RD.
  • Attend scheduled weekly staff meetings & 1on1s, RA trainings, New Student Orientation, Socials, and Planted events.
  • Participate in the RA selection process.
  • Lead and take attendance at all hall meetings.
Leadership
  • Serve as a peer mentor to assist residents in resolving problems.
  • Serve as a mediator for residents in conflict.
  • Be a resource by referring residents to Student Development services and encourage students to utilize them.
  • Respond positively to all situations.
  • Demonstrate effective listening skills and learn to ask good questions.
Community Building & Programming
  • Be visible and available to talk with residents about concerns, interests, and needs.
  • Become personally acquainted with all the students on your hall.
  • Form and regularly meet with your Leadership Team to assist in programming and discipleship.
  • Model healthy relationships, personal habits, and a positive attitude.
  • Initiate, plan, and organize hall programs.
  • Facilitate a weekly prayer and praise.
  • Attend and encourage participation at campus and hall events.
Crisis Management & Safety
  • Be familiar with the college's emergency protocol.
  • Assist in the handling of all emergencies.
  • Fulfill weekday, weekend, and break duty requirements.
  • Report incidents that you become aware of.
Policy Enforcement
  • Explain Covenant College policies and procedures to students and encourage compliance by discussing and enforcing regulations fairly and consistently.
  • Confront students who fail to comply with policies or violate other students' rights and support other staff members in the enforcement of these policies.
  • Live in agreement with the spirit and letter of the rules and regulations stated in the Student Handbook, Residence Hall Manual, Apartment Manual, and all other official college publications.
Professional Development
  • Live in a manner that is worthy of the Lord and pleasing to Him.
  • Ask questions, receive feedback, and seek out growth opportunities.
  • Any other employment or extracurricular activities during the academic year must be approved by your RD.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the RD.
  • Maintain an institutional GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Important Date Requirements

Commit yourself for the entire academic year according to the dates listed below:

Spring 2026

  • Planted Conference April 11 & 12, 2026
  • RA Spring Seminars March 19, March 26, & April 2 (11:00am - 11:50am)

Fall 2026 & Spring 2027

  • Return to campus 8/12/2026 by 4pm
  • Fall Training: 8/12/2026 - 8/27/2026
  • Christmas Break: 12/18/2026 (RAs depart when all residents have departed)
  • Return to campus: 1/6/2027 by 4pm
  • Spring Training 1/6/2027 - 1/8/2027
  • End Date: 5/8/2027 (RAs depart when all residents have departed)

For your services to Covenant College, Residence Hall RA's will be paid $4,400 before taxes for the academic year. Student Apartment RA's will be paid $2,950 before taxes for the academic year.
