Job description

Overview

The Senior Application Analyst is an Epic Systems build analyst within Northwest Permanente's Department of Medical Informatics. The Medical Informatics department advances patient care and physician efficiency by optimizing technology and supporting clinicians through system development and training. 

The Senior Systems Administrator serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert, performing complex systems configuration, supporting enterprise applications, evaluating the impact of system changes, and independently implementing and managing build projects. This role collaborates closely with KPHC IT, NWP Operations, DMI Leads, and Physician Champions to troubleshoot issues, improve workflows, and enhance system performance. The Senior Systems Administrator also mentors technical team members, expands departmental Epic expertise, and contributes to solutions that improve operational efficiency and clinical care.

We are seeking a builder with at least 1 year (2+ years preferred) of advanced Epic configuration expertise in Ambulatory or Inpatient applications, preferably within the past 3 years, capable of independently managing complex build projects, evaluating downstream impacts, and delivering scalable solutions across production and nonproduction environments. Experience leading workflow design, troubleshooting highimpact issues, and partnering with clinical and operational leaders is essential.This position requires candidates to be located within the Portland/Vancouver metro area and to work onsite at our downtown Portland corporate office one day per week. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert operational and systems guidance for KP HealthConnect, including development, optimization, upgrades, and integration of new Epic modules.
  • Serve as a multi-application Epic subject matter expert, advising leadership, clinicians, staff, and external partners.
  • Lead complex system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization across production and nonproduction environments.
  • Oversee projects, resolve highimpact system issues, and ensure timely delivery of sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to assess needs, design workflows, implement enhancements, and support change management.
  • Develop and execute testing strategies, including QA scripts, data validation, defect analysis, and deployment planning.
  • Create and maintain system documentation, training materials, and communication for users and champions.
  • Mentor technical team members and support their build, implementation, and problemsolving efforts.
  • Engage in continuous learning, feedback, and relationshipbuilding to support team effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as liaison between KP HealthConnect teams and DMI, supporting code drops, technical discussions, and tool development to improve care quality and efficiency.
  • Review and recommend implementation of Epic release notes and escalate risks or issues as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification in EpicCare Ambulatory and at least one other Epic module
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, information systems, business, library science, information resource management or related field or equivalent education and experience
  • 3+ years of system analyst build experience
  • Participation in at least one major system implementation as a primary build analyst.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and business computer applications
  • Demonstrated project management capability.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through collaboration and influence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, MS Project)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Informatics or Bachelor's in Computer Science
  • Epic certification or 3+ years' experience with Epic applications; proficiency in three Epic modules
  • 5+ years' experience within Kaiser Permanente or a Permanente Medical Group
  • Experience with two or more major system implementations
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Ability to scope and estimate enhancements of varying size.
  • Knowledge of systems analysis, research/evaluation design, and functional workflows
  • Proven success leading multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Experience implementing business information systems in the Northwest region.
