Unlike outpatient phlebotomists, they work within the hospital environment and are often available for extended or overnight shifts to accommodate patient needs at any hour. Their responsibilities include ensuring proper sample collection, labeling, and handling, as well as maintaining a sterile and safe environment. Some live in roles may require the phlebotomist to stay onsite for specific periods, such as during overnight shifts or in facilities with specific staffing needs.
