JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:              Housekeeper

REPORTS TO:                    Housekeeping Director

DEPARTMENT:                 Maintenance/Housekeeping

FLSA STATUS:                   Non-Exempt

PRIMARY DUTY

Perform housekeeping duties to ensure the community is maintained in a safe, clean, comfortable manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Cleans and sanitizes rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, resident rooms and other work areas so that health standards are met.
  • Follows user directions for all compounds and chemicals, including use of proper proportions.  Labels all compounds and chemicals properly as needed and stores them in locked storage areas.
  • Empties trash containers, replaces liners, as appropriate, and disposes of trash in proper receptacles.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, etc.
  • Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture and equipment.
  • Replenishes supplies, linens, and bathroom items.
  • Reports any repair needs to the Housekeeping Director.
  • Observes for resident safety when in resident care areas.
  • Reports any issues or problems that may arise to the Executive Director.
  • Complies with state, federal, and all other applicable health care and safety standards.
  • Assists families and other visitors as needed.
  • Attends/completes required in-services and other required meetings.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS of this position are generally as follows:

  • This position does not require supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred; previous experience in housekeeping or maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Language Ability - Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; Able to write simple correspondence; Able to talk to others to convey information effectively.
  • Reasoning Ability - Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple written or oral instructions.
  • English Language - Basic knowledge of the English language.  Able to comprehend simple instructions in English.
  • Math Ability - Knowledge of arithmetic and its applications.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles for providing customer and personal services. This includes meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Sanitation and Safety - Knowledge of principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling housekeeping tasks and equipment.
  • Organizational Support - Follows company policies and procedures.
  • Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; advises for additional resources if needed.
  • Attendance/Punctuality - Arrives to work/meetings on time, ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.

  • Housecleaning equipment and materials, spray bottles, mops, brooms, dusters, wheeled carts and step ladders may be utilized in this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • The associate is exposed to bodily fluids and odors on a regular basis.
  • The associate is occasionally required to wear protective clothing. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
