What is a live in hotel?

Live-in hotel jobs are positions within a hotel where the employee is provided with accommodation on the hotel premises as part of their employment. These roles can include housekeeping, front desk staff, maintenance, management, or other hospitality positions. Living on-site often allows employees to save on commuting and housing costs and can offer flexible work schedules. However, it may also require employees to be available for work during odd hours or emergencies. This arrangement is common in resorts, remote locations, or small hotels where on-site staff presence is essential.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a live in hotel manager?

To thrive as a Live-In Hotel Manager, you generally need experience in hospitality management, knowledge of hotel operations, and often a degree or certification in hospitality or hotel management. Familiarity with property management systems (PMS), reservation platforms, and budgeting software is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help in managing both staff and guest relations around the clock. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth hotel operations, guest satisfaction, and effective team leadership in a dynamic environment.

What are some unique challenges faced by live in hotel staff, and how can they be managed?

Live-in hotel staff often face the challenge of maintaining a healthy work-life balance since their workplace and home are in the same location. Boundaries can blur, leading to longer working hours and less personal time. To manage this successfully, it's important to establish clear schedules, communicate regularly with management about time off, and take advantage of any amenities or staff support offered by the hotel. Building good relationships with both colleagues and guests can also help create a comfortable and supportive living environment.

Job description

Independent Sales Representative

Hospitality โ€ข Commercial โ€ข Luxury Residential

Henley McKinnon Group is looking for an Independent Sales Rep to help us grow across WA, OR, ID, MT, AK & HI.

We represent makers of furniture, lighting, textiles, wallcoverings and more for hospitality, commercial and high-end residential design. Our lines include Fabric Innovations, Lily Jack, LCM Lodging Concepts, LondonART wallcoverings, and PTY Custom Lighting.

This is an independent contractor, commission-based sales role. Depending on where you live and the relationships you already have, you may cover one state or several.

WHO WEโ€™RE LOOKING FOR

Someone who is self-led, likes design and is good with people.

You can walk into a design firm, hotel or client office, meet someone new and start a conversation.

You follow up. You keep track of your projects. You can plan your own week without someone checking on you every day.

Sales or interior design experience is a plus. Experience with hospitality, furniture, fabric, lighting, building products or the design trade is also great.

You donโ€™t need to know every product on day one. We care just as much about finding someone who is curious, dependable and good at building real client relationships.

WHAT YOUโ€™LL DO

โ€ข Meet with designers, architects, restaurant grouos, developers, hotel teams and other clients

โ€ข Show samples and new products

โ€ข Build new accounts and relationships

โ€ข Find projects and sales leads

โ€ข Follow up and keep good projects moving

โ€ข Register and track your accounts/projects

โ€ข Share project and sales updates with HMG

โ€ข Help grow your territory

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Youโ€™re independent, but youโ€™re not starting from scratch.

HMG provides target account lists, project leads, Material Bank leads, samples, sales tools and manufacturer support.

We can help with virtual presentations, account targeting and select regional events and shows.

Our goal is to give you good places to start, then support you as you build your own relationships and territory.

TERRITORY

Washington โ€ข Oregon โ€ข Idaho โ€ข Montana โ€ข Alaska โ€ข Hawaii

Henley McKinnon Group is based in Western Washington.

Weโ€™re open to reps covering one state or several, based on location, current territory and experience. You should live in or regularly work within the area you represent and be able to meet with clients in person as needed.

PAY + STRUCTURE

This is an independent contractor / commission-based role.

Compensation is tied to sales from your assigned accounts and projects.

You set your own schedule and meetings. We keep HMG meetings and reporting simple so your time can stay focused on clients, projects and sales.

If you already rep complementary lines, weโ€™d especially love to hear from you.

Interested? Send us a message and your resume.
