What is a live in hotel receptionist?

Live in hotel receptionists are hospitality professionals who work at a hotel's front desk and reside on the hotel premises, often as part of their employment arrangement. Their responsibilities include greeting guests, managing reservations, handling check-ins and check-outs, answering inquiries, and providing excellent customer service. Living on-site allows them to be readily available for shifts, including night or emergency coverage, and can be particularly beneficial for smaller hotels, inns, or guesthouses. This arrangement may include accommodation as part of the compensation package, helping reduce living expenses for the employee.

What are some typical challenges a live in hotel receptionist might face, and how can they be managed?

Live In Hotel Receptionists often handle the unique challenge of balancing work responsibilities with living onsite, which can blur the line between personal and professional time. They may also face occasional late-night emergencies or requests, requiring flexibility and strong time-management skills. To manage these challenges, it’s important to set clear boundaries, communicate availability with management, and establish routines for downtime. Support from other staff and a clear schedule can help maintain a healthy work-life balance while providing excellent guest service.

Are live in hotel receptionists jobs hard to get?

Live-in hotel receptionist jobs can be competitive, especially in popular or high-end establishments, but availability depends on location and experience. Having good communication skills, customer service experience, and flexibility can improve chances of securing such positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in hotel receptionist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Hotel Receptionist, you need strong customer service skills, organizational abilities, and a basic understanding of hospitality operations, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hotel management software, reservation systems, and basic office equipment is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure smooth guest experiences, efficient front desk operations, and effective handling of guest issues around the clock.

Assistant Chief Engineer

Full Time Houston, TX, US

The Moran Hotel is a contemporary expression of luxury, where sleek design meets warm, intuitive hospitality in the heart of Houston’s CITYCENTRE. Designed for the modern traveler, it offers a refined yet accessible experience that seamlessly blends business and leisure.

This individual has a natural curiosity for how things work and should look and feel. This allows them to spot, correct and anticipate any preventative maintenance needed to protect the asset and keep the hotel running smoothly. The ultimate team player looking forward to go a step further to get it done with ease. Their primary role is to ensure a safe, quality hotel experience that improves guest satisfaction.

  • This leader will oversee the full scope of facility operations for The Moran Building, ensuring all physical assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetics. This role expands beyond traditional engineering responsibilities to include direct oversight of Life Safety, Security, and Custodial Operations across the entire project, including the Office Building, non-hotel public spaces, and shared areas.
  • The Facilities Director will provide strategic leadership to the Director of Security and team, custodial leaders and team, and the engineering leaders and team—ensuring an integrated approach to safety, security, maintenance, and service excellence consistent with Makeready’s standards and guiding principles.

Requested Tasks:

  • Lead, mentor, and hold accountable the Engineering, Security, and Custodial teams.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence in service delivery.
  • Partner with property and corporate leadership to ensure strategic alignment across all operational areas.
  • Ensure proper staffing, training, and professional development within all reporting departments
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities management, engineering, or building operations leadership within hospitality, mixed‑use, and/or commercial real estate.
  • Prior experience overseeing multi‑departmental functions (engineering, security, custodial, or life safety) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in luxury hospitality environments is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) and preventive maintenance software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Must adhere to Makeready and property policies and procedures.

As part of the Makeready collection, we proudly offer a variety of thoughtful benefits for eligible team members, including accommodating PTO/PTO exchange, medical/dental/vision benefits, pet insurance, company‑matched dependent care & 401k, student loan repayment program and a wide range of additional ancillary benefits. The health, happiness, and well‑being of our team is our top priority.

We take pride in our Guiding Principles to help define how we successfully work together. We follow them not out of duty but live by them instinctively.

Makeready LLC and its affiliated entities are proud to encourage and support an environment where everyone can be a successful team member as their true independent self. We are an equal opportunity workplace and employer that does not discriminate based on race, color, disability, gender/sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, veteran status, or any other protected status. We are committed to building a team and a workplace where we are all able to be successful based solely on our individual qualifications, experience, abilities, and job performance.
