Description:

As a Starting Gate Driver, you are responsible for the mobile starting gate and ensuring the car is fueled, cleaned and maintained at all times during horse racing meets. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices and procedures.


Schedule In this role, you will be required to work live race nights and weekends from 4pm-midnight.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Keep updated information on all scratches during Racing Program, have starting gate prepared for racing and assist Starter (State appointed employee) in attaining a fair start for all horses.
  • Ensure Car is fueled, cleaned and maintained at all times during racing meet.
  • Reports issues and concerns to the Race Secretary or Plant Superintendent.
  • Responsible for training backup driver(s).
  • Promotes positive employee and public relations.

Proof of eligibility to work in the United States


Education

High School Diploma or GED is Required


Work Experience

1+ Years of Prior Relevant Experience is Required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess safe driving skills; have the ability to steer precise turns with little or no corrections, make split second decisions and obey the instructions of the Starter while driving the mobile starting gate at speeds up to 30 mph or more while on the racetrack. Has to work in tandem with Starter to control vehicle.
  • Ability to be mentally sharp and handle the pressures of racing at all times.
  • Ability to physically sit in starting gate for the entire race card, up to four hours per night.
