Teacher for Homebound Instruction
Part-Time Position
Qualifications:
1. Meet employment requirements of age, education, training, VA teacher licensure
2. Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding students' educational welfare
3. Demonstrate professional and personal characteristics necessary for effective and positive interactions with students, colleagues, parents and community
4. Possess strengths in academic core content
5. Demonstrate ability to assist students with specific course content

Position Purposeย 

ย 

- ย Under the general supervision of the School Principals, to serve as a homeboundย instructor to maintain achievement in reading, writing and mathematics, implementing district approved curricula and programs.ย 

ย 

Essential Functionsย 

ย 

- ย Develops and administers assessment techniques and methods to ascertain the particular needs of individual students identified as in need ofย reading, writing and mathematics instruction.ย 

ย 

- ย Develops reading, writing and mathematics strategies,ย instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments.ย 

ย 

- ย Teaches knowledge and skills in letter and word recognition, sentence and paragraph structure, vocabulary, proper word usage, writing, and mathematics.ย 

ย 

- ย Conducts learning activities, incorporating technology and a variety of instructional methods and materials.ย 

ย 

- ย Creates evaluation instruments and procedures to monitor the student progress and the effectiveness of instruction.ย 

ย 

- ย Documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; develops lesson plans; models the necessary skills to perform assignments; and provides feedback to administration and teaching staff regarding student progress, expectations, and goals and objectives.ย 

ย 

- ย Coordinates with other professional staff, especially within grade level, regarding reading, writing and mathematics assessments and remedial teaching techniques; assists, coaches and models effectiveย instructional strategies for classroom teachers.ย 

ย 

- ย Maintains familiarity with district and Virginia Department of Education Standards of Learning grade level objectives,ย for the purpose of maximizingย student achievement on such tests.ย 

ย 

- ย Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students,ย parents and classroom teacher(s).ย 

ย 

-ย  Requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.ย 

ย

- ย Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principals and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.ย

- ย Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirementsย 

ย 

- ย Travels to student's home or other designated public location for assigned time of instruction. Occasional visits to the student's school or central office may be required.

- ย Knowledge of current teaching methods and instruction based upon student learning styles.ย

- ย Knowledge of grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, writing, and mathematics.ย

- ย Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.ย 

ย 

- ย Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.ย 

ย 

- ย Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.ย

- ย Ability to organize and coordinate work.ย

- ย Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.ย

- ย Virginia Dept. of Education active Teacher's License

- ย Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.ย

- ย Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.ย

Experience:ย

- ย Successful prior teaching experience for K-12 schools preferred.ย
