Summary or Purpose
All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.
Operates North Slope Borough heavy equipment; maintains roads, airports, and landfills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Maintains and clears roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
Inspects vehicles and equipment prior to operations; completes shift inspection checklist.
Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.
Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
Loads and unloads aircraft with heavy equipment.
Must be polite and courteous to the public.
May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
Village travel as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.
Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800
Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications
One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.

Therefore, due to extreme weather conditions in the arctic and for your safety, housing accommodations must be located and pre-arranged by the applicant prior to the start of employment.
