Job description

As a Tax Analyst II, you play a key role in supporting Rocket's federal tax compliance and tax accounting functions. You are detail-oriented, take ownership of your work, and are motivated to continuously learn and grow within a dynamic corporate tax environment. In this position, you will prepare and analyze tax-related workpapers, support tax provision calculations, research tax issues, and ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations. Your analytical skills and commitment to accuracy will directly impact the company's tax strategy and regulatory compliance.
About the role
  • Prepare and analyze book-to-tax adjustments and supporting workpapers used to calculate taxable income for multiple legal entities on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Coordinate with accounting and finance teams to gather, validate, and analyze financial data required for tax compliance and tax accounting activities.
  • Support the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns ensuring timely and accurate filings.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740, including current and deferred tax analyses.
  • Research and document federal and state tax issues, regulations, and legislation to support compliance and planning activities.
  • Prepare responses to tax notices and assist with federal and state income tax audits as needed.
  • Maintain tax records, workpapers, and supporting documentation in accordance with internal controls and compliance requirements.

About you
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of tax experience within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department.
  • Experience supporting federal and/or state income tax compliance and tax return preparation.
  • Experience with income tax provisions and ASC 740.
  • Experience utilizing tax compliance and provision software such as OneSource, CorpTax, or similar platforms.
  • Foundational knowledge of tax accounting concepts, including book-to-tax differences.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to federal income tax audits, tax research, or tax planning activities.
  • Experience with tax research platforms such as Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, or CCH.
  • Familiarity with Alteryx, automation tools, AI-enabled solutions, or other technologies used to improve tax processes.
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA licensure.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.
