WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Site Supervisor – Optical Fiber Service Delivery is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and successful delivery of fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities across mission-critical and large-scale network infrastructure projects. The Site Supervisor provides operational, technical, and people leadership for all field activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Acting as the senior on-site representative, the Site Supervisor manages field personnel, subcontractors, client relationships, site logistics, materials, productivity, and compliance while maintaining full accountability for daily operational performance. Working closely with Project Management, Engineering, Logistics and the Service Director, the Site Supervisor ensures effective planning, resource allocation, risk management and communication throughout the project lifecycle.

This role requires frequent travel. Must be located near a major airport.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of fiber optic network projects, including new builds, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Develop detailed project plans, resource allocations, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee site surveys, installation, splicing, testing, and commissioning of fiber infrastructure.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering design packages (EDPs), technical specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate materials procurement, logistics, and on-site operations to maintain timelines and quality targets.
  • Support the integration of new fiber infrastructure into existing network systems.

Technical Oversight

  • Provide expert guidance on fiber splicing techniques, including single-mode, multi-mode, and ribbon fiber applications.
  • Supervise and validate testing using OTDR, OLTS, power meters, and visual fault locators.
  • Review and interpret OTDR traces, loss budgets, and certification reports.
  • Support troubleshooting of complex network or infrastructure faults.
  • Conduct technical evaluations and implement continuous improvement in splicing and testing methodologies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging fiber optic technologies, tools, and standards.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and coordinate teams of fiber splicing technicians, field engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Assign workloads, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to safety and quality protocols.
  • Mentor junior technicians, fostering skill development and professional growth.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Liaise with internal departments, project managers, and client representatives to ensure alignment and clear communication across all stakeholders.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce QA/QC processes, including regular field audits and inspections.
  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds industry standards (ITU, FOA, BICSI) and client specifications.
  • Verify test results, documentation, and as-built drawings before client handover.
  • Monitor compliance with all health and safety regulations, including confined space and live network work procedures.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and drive corrective and preventive actions.

Financial & Reporting

  • Manage project budgets and track expenditure against forecasts.
  • Report on project performance, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed project status updates, progress reports, and post-project reviews.
  • Support commercial teams with accurate project costing, forecasting, and resource planning.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Proven experience leading fiber optic splicing, installation, or repair projects in data center, metro, or large-scale network environments.
  • Strong technical proficiency in fusion and mechanical splicing, fiber characterization, and network certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of OTDR, OLTS, and power meter testing methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret and review fiber design schematics, EDPs, and as-built documentation.
  • Demonstrated success in managing field teams and subcontractors in high-demand environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of project management principles and the ability to prioritize multiple workstreams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable standards and regulations (ITU, FOA, BICSI, OSHA).
  • Proficiency with project management and reporting tools (MS Project, Trello, Asana, or equivalent).
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Industry-recognized fiber certifications (FOA CFOT, BICSI Technician, or equivalent).
  • Experience in client-facing or vendor management roles.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure environments and high-density fiber systems.
  • Previous experience implementing QA/QC frameworks or safety programs.
