What is a live in elderly companion?

Live-in elderly companions are caregivers who reside with an elderly person to provide assistance with daily activities, companionship, and basic care. Their responsibilities often include helping with personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping. Unlike nurses, they typically do not provide medical care but focus on supporting the emotional and social well-being of their clients while ensuring their safety and comfort at home.

What is the difference between Live In Elderly Companion vs Home Health Aide?

AspectLive In Elderly CompanionHome Health Aide
CredentialsMinimal; often no formal certification requiredCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification often required
Work EnvironmentPrivate homes, providing companionship and supervisionPrivate homes, healthcare facilities, assisting with daily living tasks
Job DutiesCompanionship, light housekeeping, medication remindersPersonal care, mobility assistance, basic medical tasks

How to become a paid live in elderly companion?

To become a paid live-in elderly companion, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, along with compassionate communication skills and patience. Relevant experience or certifications in caregiving or first aid can improve job prospects, and employers often require background checks and references. Training programs are available to enhance skills in elderly care and companionship.

What are some common challenges faced by live in elderly companions, and how can they be managed?

Live-in elderly companions often face challenges such as adapting to a client's unique routines, managing emotional boundaries, and ensuring effective communication with both the elderly individual and their family. It is essential to maintain professionalism while building a compassionate relationship, and to set clear expectations regarding duties and privacy. Regular check-ins with family members and utilizing support networks can help companions address these challenges and provide high-quality care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in elderly companion, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Elderly Companion, you need a background in caregiving, basic first aid, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Patience, strong interpersonal skills, and empathy are essential for building trust and providing emotional support to elderly clients. These skills and qualities are critical for ensuring the well-being, safety, and comfort of seniors in their daily lives.

Job description

Part-Time Geauga County Caregiver

We are looking for individuals to help care for local elderly clients, one-on-one, in their homes. Most of our elderly clients need help with day-to-day things like grocery shopping, running errands, housekeeping, laundry, preparing meals, and helping them remain as independent as possible, in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Some clients need a little more intimate help with things such as showering and toileting. Every case is different. Hours and clients will be based on your individual availability, skill & comfortable level.

Do you have some extra free time? Do you want to help give back to others in the community in a meaningful way? If this sounds like you, we want you on our crew!

Job Title: Caregiver, Granny Nanny, Elderly BFF... the titles are endless! ;)

Location: Geauga County (Middlefield, Burton, Newbury, Chardon, Chesterland, etc)

Pay: 4-12 hr shifts: $16.00 per hour to start. $1-$2 pay differential for short shifts (shifts 2-3 hours in length).

About Us: We are a locally owned and operated home care agency. We have one owner, one office & the same set of schedulers. With us, you're a valued individual, not just a number. We offer an outstanding compensation package to those individuals who meet our high standards to become a Cherished Companion. Our caregivers are ACTUAL EMPLOYEES of our company and not just contract workers. That means we pay all taxes and our caregivers are guaranteed the protections that go along with being an employee of a company versus being self-employed. We are also the proud winner of the 2023 & 2024 Home Care Pulse awards: Best of Home Care Provider of Choice, Employer of Choice and Leader in Excellence.

How to Apply: Apply online and then check your email.  A Skills Survey will be sent to you with a list of true or false questions. Please answer true or false to each question and then hit submit. Once we receive your answers, we will reach out to you by email about the next step in the hiring process.
