Job description

About the Role:

The Home Health Aide (HHA)/Personal Care Assistant (PCA)/Live-in caregiver plays a vital role in providing compassionate, personalized care to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities in their own homes. This position is designed to support clients with physical, emotional, and medical needs, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the day and night. As a live-in caregiver, you will be responsible for creating a stable and supportive environment, fostering independence while closely monitoring health conditions and responding promptly to any changes. The role demands a high level of empathy, patience, and professionalism, as you will often be the primary source of companionship and care for clients. Ultimately, your work will enable clients to maintain their dignity and quality of life while remaining in the comfort of their own homes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Home Health Aide (HHA) or Personal Care Assistant (PCA) as required by state regulations.
  • Completion of a recognized training program for home health or personal care services.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings as mandated by employers and regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care.
  • Basic literacy and communication skills to understand care plans and document services provided.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a live-in caregiving role or similar home care setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems or caregiving documentation software.
  • Additional training or certification in specialized care areas such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, or chronic disease management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Administer medication reminders and assist with basic health monitoring as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding when necessary, ensuring dietary requirements are met.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties including laundry, cleaning, and maintaining a safe living environment.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, engaging in conversation and recreational activities.
  • Monitor clients’ physical and emotional condition and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate healthcare provider or family member.
  • Assist with transportation to medical appointments or errands as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided and any observations related to the client’s health and well-being.

Skills:

The required skills enable the caregiver to effectively assist clients with their daily needs while ensuring safety and comfort. Communication skills are essential for understanding client needs, coordinating with healthcare providers, and documenting care accurately. Physical stamina and dexterity are necessary to assist with mobility and personal care tasks. Preferred skills such as CPR certification and experience with specialized care enhance the caregiver’s ability to respond to emergencies and provide tailored support for clients with complex health conditions. Additionally, proficiency with caregiving documentation tools helps maintain clear and organized records, facilitating continuity of care and compliance with regulatory standards.
