Shifts: Weekends 12 hour shifts

Pay Band/Wage: $31.20 - $44.18 (Pay Band 9) BOE

The goals of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics program in MN are to 1) increase access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder services (particularly to under-served communities), 2) advance integration of behavioral health with physical health care, and 3) improve utilization of evidence-based practices on a more consistent basis.

Position Summary:

This role is direct patient care and administrative in nature, designed to meet the needs of our community consistent with our organization’s status as a CCBHC. The Registered Nurse will provide care across the organization, though it will most likely be focused in one area for most of their time. Programs that they will be involved with as part of this position include substance use disorder services (detoxification and inpatient residential treatment services), mental health intensive services (crisis and intensive residential treatment services), outpatient psychiatry services, and is collaborative with our community programs (ARMHS medication education).


General Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Registered nurses (RNs) work closely with supervising providers to assess and monitor patients’ needs and ensure treatment and care are conducted according to the facility’s procedures by:
  • Caring for patients
  • Record a patient’s medical history, symptoms, and vitals with prompt and professional documentation.
  • Update patient charts and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Perform medical tasks, including blood draws and administering shots, and responds to emergent medical needs such as first aid, CPR, wound care.
  • Administers medication and other treatment team-recommended treatment plans.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local nursing regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Collaborates with fellow staff, other departments and outside agencies.
  • Completion of continuing education requirements. Participates in yearly performance review process and provides peer reviews as directed.
  • Adherence to organization code of conduct, maintaining appropriate communication and boundaries with other staff, patients, and outside agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned are consistent within the RN scope of practice, meeting the needs of the organization and patients.
  • Attend at least 16 hours of training per year in areas specified by IRT and CS rules

Program-specific duties/responsibilities:

  • Provide chart audits, policy review, updating of policy and procedures as requested to assure compliance with regulatory requirements and assuring safe delivery of care. Report findings to clinical nurse manager, program director, medical director and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Provide training to LPN and unlicensed assistive personnel on medication administration, documentation of medication and health assessment, CPR, withdrawal protocols, etc.
  • Regularly attend program, treatment, and staff meetings, providing recommendations for improvement in patient care, program services, organizational needs.
  • Complete patient assessment and education visits consistent with meeting expectations of a CCBHC organization.
  • Collaborate with all inter-organizational departments to facilitate prompt and safe delivery of services to patients.
  • Communicate with other agencies including hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, social services, probation/ law enforcement, etc as appropriate and within privacy guidelines to facilitate prompt and safe referrals and delivery of care.
  • Flexibility to float to other programs/ services within the organization based on staffing needs and acuity of patients.
  • While every effort will be made to not require work outside of the standard hours, our organization does provide 24/7/365 medical services. Ability to work off shifts including evening, night, weekend, and when needed to assure patient and organizational needs are met

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Exhibits strong clinical skills along with excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Capability to delegate tasks, and openness to receiving delegation, direction and feedback.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills. Willingness to engage in problem solving.
  • Collaborates well with others under challenging circumstances, maintains composure in response to difficult situations, respectful in all interactions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as working with an EHR.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is a requirement to this position

Education and Experience:

  • Current license as Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Must be able to pass a State of MN Dept of Human Services criminal background study.
  • Preference for previous experience in behavioral health, community health, substance use services.
  • Preference for BSN-prepared nurses due to community health component of that degree. Strong support of individuals pursuing BSN preparation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, periods of standing, bending, and reaching, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be physically able to attend to medical emergencies.
  • 18 years of age
  • Ability to physically provide medical procedures, including injections.
  • Vision sufficient to utilize a computer monitor, monitor the people we serve and visitors and identify, measure, and dispense medications.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate via telephone or in person either one on one or in a group setting.
  • Able to articulate the English language in a manner that is sufficiently clear as to be easily understood.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and physical appearance.
  • Must be able to maintain a Minnesota driver's license and auto insurance
