Job description

Total Aviation Staffing is hiring a Senior A&P Mechanic for our client, a leading air medical transport provider supporting life-saving helicopter operations.

This position is based in Evansville, Indiana and is ideal for an experienced A&P-licensed aircraft mechanic who wants to make a direct impact in a mission-critical aviation environment. In this role, you will help ensure helicopter aircraft remain safe, airworthy, and ready to respond to emergency medical missions.

In air medical operations, every detail matters. Your work supports pilots, medical crews, patients, and communities that depend on reliable aircraft when time is critical. If you are a skilled A&P Mechanic with strong troubleshooting ability, helicopter maintenance experience, and pride in keeping aircraft mission-ready, this is a strong opportunity to join a safety-focused aviation maintenance team.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is more than a standard aircraft mechanic position. You will support aircraft used in life-saving missions, where maintenance quality, reliability, and attention to detail are non-negotiable.

This opportunity offers:

  • Sign-on bonus up to $15,000
  • 7-on / 7-off schedule
  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • Shift bonuses and incentives
  • Annual safety bonus
  • Annual employee bonus
  • Mission-driven helicopter maintenance work
  • Opportunity to support air medical operations
  • Travel between bases
  • Long-term growth in the helicopter and air medical maintenance industry
What You’ll Do

As a Senior A&P Mechanic, you will perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, documentation, and inventory support to keep aircraft safe and mission-ready.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review and evaluate daily aircraft maintenance and inspection requirements.
  • Perform maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to maintain aircraft airworthiness.
  • Investigate and repair airframe, powerplant, and related aircraft systems issues.
  • Notify the Lead Mechanic of unusual situations requiring schedule changes, aircraft changes, additional manpower, or technical assistance.
  • Support maintenance of aircraft assigned to the field base.
  • Monitor stock levels and requisition spare parts as needed to complete required repairs.
  • Maintain the safety and security of company assets at the field base.
  • Prepare reports, requisitions, inventories, aircraft logs, inspection forms, and maintenance documentation.
  • Certify aircraft logs and related maintenance forms in accordance with FAA, manufacturer, and company requirements.
  • Complete required entries in maintenance tracking systems, including work packages, status sheets, removals, and installations.
  • Maintain close communication with the Lead Mechanic, base leadership, and other internal teams to ensure timely job completion.
  • Maintain parts inventory and recommend inventory level changes when needed.
  • Maintain company-provided special tools and ensure calibration is completed as scheduled.
  • Perform additional maintenance and operational duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a reliable, safety-focused A&P Mechanic who can work independently in a field-base maintenance environment. You should be comfortable troubleshooting aircraft issues, completing accurate documentation, supporting parts inventory, and communicating clearly with maintenance leadership and operations teams.

This role is a great fit for someone who understands that aircraft maintenance in air medical operations has zero room for “close enough.” The aircraft is either mission-ready, or it is not. That’s the bar.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • FAA Mechanic Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience as a certified aircraft mechanic.
  • Ability to perform aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs.
  • Basic communication skills.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-placement physical exam, including a functional capacity exam.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to live within one hour or 60 miles of the assigned base, whichever is greater.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Helicopter maintenance experience.
  • Air medical or EMS helicopter maintenance experience.
  • Field maintenance or base maintenance experience.
  • Experience with aircraft maintenance tracking systems such as RAMCO or similar platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills on airframe, powerplant, and related aircraft systems.
  • Experience maintaining parts inventory, tools, and calibration requirements.
Roving Maintenance Team Requirements

For mechanics assigned to or supporting the Roving Maintenance Team, additional requirements may include:

  • Sheet metal repair skills and/or avionics troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently, sometimes with short notice during regularly scheduled hitch.
  • Ability to work night shifts when maintenance events require it.
Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to perform aircraft maintenance in a field-base environment and support physically demanding maintenance tasks. Candidates must be able to pass a functional capacity exam, including strength and flexibility assessments, and lift up to 100 lbs.

Schedule and Location Details
  • Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off
  • Location: Evansville, IN
  • Candidates must live within a one-hour drive or 60 miles from the base, whichever is greater.
  • Travel between bases is required.
  • Night shift work may be required when maintenance events dictate.
Compensation and Benefits

This opportunity includes a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

  • Competitive pay
  • Sign-on bonus up to $15,000
  • Shift bonuses
  • Shift incentives
  • Annual safety bonus
  • Annual employee bonus
  • Additional company benefits
