Summary

The Editor is responsible for conception, planning and managing content for the Bethesda Today news site and corresponding email newsletters. Bethesda Today is looking for a versatile and talented Editor who adheres to the highest journalistic standards and is passionate about local news. Bethesda Today is owned by Today Media, a leading publisher of regional lifestyle magazines, business publications, and websites across multiple markets.



Essential Job Functions:

· Manage the editorial staff

· Develop, assign, and edit stories

· Engage with sources and monitor social media to stay up to date on news and trends in the community

· Collaborate with Publisher to conceive, plan, and participate in events

· Represent the organization at events and collaborate on membership campaigns

· Employ digital reader data and news judgment to inform editorial decisions

· Conceive and execute new editorial ideas and products

· Ensure that the news site maintains the highest editorial and ethical standards


In addition to the essential functions listed above, employees are expected to exemplify honesty, integrity, and respect in all interactions. They are responsible for promoting a professional and collaborative work environment through effective communication with colleagues and the community. Requirements:

· Live in the Washington, D.C. area (preferably in Montgomery County, Maryland), and have a strong commitment to local journalism and to serving the community

· Organized, deadline-oriented and scrupulous attention to detail



Salary range is $75,000-$100,000. Benefits include PTO, 401K, medical, dental, vision, life, and HSA/FSA.
