Job description

Overview

Responsibilities
  • The Endoscopy Technician professional responsibility within their scope of practice:
    • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
    • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality.
    • Requires regular and prompt attendance,
    • Works the assigned schedule including overtime.
    • Practices family centered care according to policies.
    • Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards.
    • Assists with orientation of new employees as assigned.
    • Available in hospital within thirty (45) minutes of call.
  • The Endoscopy Technician patient care/Department responsibilities:
    • Requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care.

    • Utilizes proper body mechanics when:

      • Moving, positioning and transforming patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety.
      • Moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions.
    • Supports the nursing process through:

      • Data collection, provision of patient care. implementation of nursing interventions for patients and family as directed by the RN.
    • Provides direct patient care accounting to unit specific competencies:

      • Identifies and monitor's medications administered from the sterile field.
      • Responds appropriately to emergency patient situations.
    • Perfoms skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rationale precautions, and obtentions related to that procedure.

    • Utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital information System and Endomaager system.

  • The Endoscopy Technician communication responsibilities:
    • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients. families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone.
    • Responds to overhead pages. notifies the Charge Nurse when leaving the unit.
  • The Endoscopy Technician documentation responsibilities:Maintains accurate and complete records by:
    • Completing unit education card.
    • Completing in-service attendance sheet.
    • Completing the Stenzlier strips, Minimal effective Concentration of Paracetic Acid, QA log.
    • Updates Endoscopist/Surgeon Preference Cards.
  • The Endoscopy Technician citizenship responsibilities:
    • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict.
    • Cooperates, Helps others and improves the performance of the unit.
    • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements.
    • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
    • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • The Endoscopy Technician responsibilities for providing age specific care:
    • Demonstrating the ability to provide competent patient care lo the following patient populations:
    • Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School age/Adolescent. Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal
    • The Endoscopy Technician responsibilities for unit/departmental specific:

      • Utilizes the principals of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur.
      • Uses technically advanced equipment
      • Participates in evaluation of new products.
      • Maintains appropriate supplies for procedural needs.
      • Provides appropriate care lo specimens and cultures as directed by set Policies and Procedures.
      • Perfonns scrub duties.
      • Establishes and maintains sterile field, or aeseptic field.
      • Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening.
      • Adheres to elcctrosurgical safety Policy and Procedures.
    • Verifies that all equipment disposable and fixed parts are accounted for during procedures.

    • Decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols.

  • Assists physician who performs advanced endoscopy including: ERCP long and short wire, EUS, Rf A, VLE, Sma II Bowel Single Balloon.
  • Small Bowel Spirus. Dilations by CRE, Savory, Hurricane, Stents including esophageal, colonic, biliary, and pancreatic
  • Spyglass with ESL, Bro nchoscopy.
  • Navigational I Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial I Ultrasound: Lesion excision including polypectomy mucosal resection, submucosa\rescction, Cautcry including Argon, ERBE knife and waterjet.
  • Adv a need procedures including: POEM. GPOEM, Tl F, Endo flip, and En dost itch.
  • Has the knowledge needed to assist with these types of cases or the ability to engage in active learning including attending conferences, and training that may be deemed mandatory.
  • Other duties as assigned/required, Including reassignment lo other units.
    • Participates on committees as assigned.
  • Participates in Performance improvement activities through unit specific assignments.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year Experience in procedural area or relavent experience as a medical/technical assistant Required OR
  • Completion of an approved scrub tech program Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
