What is a live-in boat?

A live-in boat is a type of vessel designed or adapted for people to reside on either full-time or for extended periods. These boats typically have essential amenities such as sleeping quarters, a small kitchen (galley), bathroom facilities (head), and living space. Live-in boats can range from houseboats and narrowboats to larger yachts and sailboats. Living aboard can offer a unique lifestyle, often appealing to those who enjoy water-based living and travel. However, it also comes with specific challenges, such as maintenance, mooring, and adapting to limited space.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a live-in boat caretaker?

To thrive as a liveaboard boat caretaker, you need strong knowledge of boat maintenance, basic seamanship, and often a boating license or marine certification. Familiarity with navigation systems, marine engines, and onboard safety equipment is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills help you manage emergencies and coordinate with owners or marinas. These skills ensure the vessel remains safe, operational, and well-maintained, which is crucial for both daily living and the boat’s longevity.

What are common challenges faced by a live-in boat caretaker and how can they be managed?

Live-In Boat Caretakers often face challenges such as maintaining the vessel in varying weather conditions, ensuring safety and security, and performing regular maintenance tasks. Adapting to the confined living space and being prepared for unexpected repairs or emergencies are also part of the role. Successful caretakers typically develop strong troubleshooting skills, maintain clear communication with boat owners, and establish routines for daily checks and upkeep to manage these challenges effectively.

Job description

At Neighbor, we're building the largest hyperlocal storage and parking marketplace in the world. We've raised over $75 million from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz and the CEOs of DoorDash, StockX, and Uber. Our marketplace operates in all 50 states, and we're just getting started.

About the Role

Neighbor is looking for a senior, high-agency operator to build our partnerships channel from zero and turn it into one of the company's largest sources of renters. You'll report directly to Reid Benson, VP of Marketing (ex-Netflix, ex-MasterClass). The channel spans three kinds of partners:

  • Enterprise: Real estate, marketplaces and software platforms, moving companies, and auto/RV/boat brands. These are multi-stakeholder deals with real integration work behind them.
  • Performance: Publishers, affiliates, and creators who drive qualified demand. Tracking, attribution, and payouts already run on Everflow, so you inherit working infrastructure rather than building it.
  • Integrations: API, embedded inventory, and white-label experiences that make Neighbor part of a partner's product, not just a link on their site.

As Head of Partnerships, you'll close the deals, partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and Legal to ship the integrations, and own the channel's revenue and spend. You'll operate hands-on from the start, building on early momentum, and grow the team as the channel proves out.

This is a high-ownership, high-stakes seat at a company disrupting a $500B industry. If you can sit across from a C-level counterpart and close, then break down walls internally to get it live, this role is for you.

What You'll Do
  • Set the partnership strategy: map the landscape, pick where Neighbor plays first, and build the pipeline
  • Source, negotiate, and close tier-1 and regional deals, including commercial terms, revenue share, exclusivity, and co-marketing
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and Legal to scope, build, and launch partner integrations
  • Own full-funnel channel economics (traffic → leads → move-ins → LTV), payout structures, attribution, and ROAS, and hit the number
  • Scale the performance program: grow winning affiliates and publishers, cut low-quality sources, direct the people who run it day to day
  • Own channel reporting, building dashboards that keep executives and the board informed
  • Hire and lead the partnerships team as the channel proves out
Qualifications
  • 7+ years in strategy, partnerships, business development, or corporate development at a marketplace, fintech, or vertical software company
  • Track record of personally closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals with VP- and C-level counterparts
  • Has owned a revenue or growth number and the spend behind it
  • Has shipped a technical integration across two companies, from scoping to launch
  • Strong analytical instincts: unit economics, attribution, and comfort in SQL or a BI tool
  • Ability to run dozens of partnerships at different stages without dropping a thread
Benefits
  • Generous Stock options
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous PTO
  • 11 paid company holidays
  • 401(k) plan
  • Infant care leave
  • On-site gym/showers open 24/7
