What are the typical daily responsibilities of a live in Arabic nanny, and how do they collaborate with parents?

A Live In Arabic Nanny is responsible for the daily care and well-being of children, including preparing nutritious meals, assisting with homework, organizing educational and cultural activities in Arabic, and maintaining a safe environment. They often work closely with parents to align on routines, expectations, and any specific language or developmental goals for the children. Regular communication with parents is essential to ensure consistency in care and to update them on the child’s progress. Collaboration may also extend to coordinating with other household staff, if present, to manage schedules and duties efficiently.

What is a live in Arabic nanny?

Live In Arabic Nannies are childcare professionals who reside in the employer's home and provide care for children, often focusing on teaching the Arabic language and culture. Their responsibilities typically include daily childcare, organizing educational activities, and sometimes light housekeeping related to the children. By living in the home, they offer flexibility and a consistent presence, which can be especially valuable for families looking to immerse their children in Arabic language and customs. Many families hire live-in nannies to ensure their children grow up bilingual and culturally aware. These nannies often have relevant childcare experience and may hold certifications in early childhood education.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in Arabic nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Arabic Nanny, you need childcare experience, fluency in Arabic, and often basic first aid certification. Familiarity with household management tools, educational games, and sometimes childcare monitoring apps is beneficial. Patience, cultural sensitivity, and strong communication skills help build trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure the child's well-being, foster language and cultural development, and create a harmonious home environment.

HN428 - Full-Time Live-In Nanny/Governess - San Francisco, CA

British American Household Staffing

San Francisco, CA

$55 - $75/hr

Full-time

Posted 22 days ago

Job description

A family in Pacific Heights, San Francisco is seeking a full-time live-in nanny/governess/educator for their daughter who is 2-years-old. The schedule would generally be Monday through Friday 8am-5pm/6pm but some flexibility required at times for earlier morning starts if needed. Saturdays and Sundays would be off, but the nanny still needs to live in 7 days a week. This is a fully-staffed home with a chef and housekeepers. The role is a hybrid one: they are looking for a professional who can lead their daughter's early education and development; cultivate language, manners, and etiquette by example, and model the standards of communication and conduct the parents desire. Above all, they are seeking impeccable character, patience, and refinement, paired with real intellectual substance. The parents were raised between Europe and the United States, and that upbringing instilled in them a lasting regard for rigorous education, fine manners, and the quieter virtues of character and conduct and this should likewise be reflected in the candidate to hire and how their child is brought up. The role begins as soon as a great fit is found.

  • The child can do addition, subtraction, and counts to 100; loves books; loves words and numbers, so being able to create and implement daily educationally-enriching activities and lessons plans/curriculum as tailored for the child is desired for this role
  • The nanny must have an excellent driving skills and clean driving record just in case they need the nanny to drive the child

  • The nanny will be responsible for anything and everything related to the child including her laundry; must be able to prepare, warm up, plate plus serve the child's food (there is a chef however the child may need the nanny to be able to prepare foods if needed); must be able to chop the child’s food and fruits to serve at all times. Prepare snacks if needed. If needed, they may need to be able to prepare side dishes such as additional vegetable dishes, tomato salads, chop cucumbers, avocados or roast potatoes

  • US/EU citizenship is a bonus
  • A skier is a bonus
  • Homeschooling experience is a plus
  • Specifically, Preschool/Kindergarten teaching experience is a plus
  • French-speaking is a plus; if not, Italian or Spanish

  • They prefer British or other international candidates
  • Must have a college or university degree in Early Childhood Education or Childhood Development, or a degree related to a childcare focused-field (I.E., Education, Child Psychology, etc.). They desire a degree, not a certificate or just some coursework completed. Must have a degree in a childcare and/or education field.
  • Must have teaching experience for a minimum of 5 years at a Preschool, Kindergarten, or Primary School. Homeschooling experience is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable around cats and NOT allergic; they have 3 cats
  • Must be a native English-language speaker
  • Must be bilingual; French a plus, or Italian or Spanish
  • Must have a minimum of 15 years' of experience combined as a nanny/governess/educator
  • No baby-talking and must teach the child proper conversation such as, "May I please have a water?" Instead of, "Can I have a water?" or "Water please", etc.
  • Swimmer
  • Someone seeking longevity in this job, growing alongside the child's ages and not out of her ages

  • Energetic

  • Has experience/expertise as a professional childcare expert

  • Strong communicator

  • Very clean in the sense of overall cleanliness, organization, and hygiene

  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Licensed driver with a clean driving record
  • Able to nurture the child's mind and learning stages thoughtfully - never with pressure, but with structure, warmth, and a genuine love of learning. The family believe she would flourish in the care of someone who understands both the science of early childhood development and the older art of raising a child to be gracious, articulate, and kind

  • The family is open on hourly rate for this role, starting at $55-75/hour+. Note: the hourly rate you input should reflect you meeting their requirements of being a former teacher of at least 5 years (homeschooling is fine, but not tutoring), having a completed degree in a childcare related field (not a certificate or just coursework done), having a total of 15 years of experience combined as a nanny/governess/educator, and speaking a second language. Thank you for understanding!
  • Separate nanny quarters with own fridge in room and microwave, but main kitchen would be shared with nanny and family
  • Benefits are determined and agreed upon based on the nanny's background and experience
