Job description

Thank you for your interest in serving as a contract audio engineer for Epic Church. We put a lot of effort and attention into the church experiences we create each week, and audio has a big part to play! Here are some general guidelines and information.

Requirements

  • A professional ear
  • Experience in setting up and tearing down sound and band equipment
  • Able to crush it on an Allen and Heath SQ5 and/or Avantis mixing console
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a figure-it-out mentality.
  • Able to receive feedback well and learn to mix to Epicโ€™s sound standards and preferences. We have an โ€œEpic Soundโ€ and will want you to learn it so that our sound is consistent across locations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A speedy worker who isnโ€™t rattled by a fast-paced, flexible environment.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Every Sunday, we set up church in portable environments across the city. You will be responsible for serving alongside our volunteer teams to:

  • Come prepared, knowing the service plan and flow.
  • Move equipment from storage into position
  • Set up FOH soundboard, cabling, and speaker systems
  • Assist the band in setting up instruments, mics, and in-ears
  • Set up and test all lobby sound/music
  • Run sound during rehearsals and live services
  • Troubleshoot and fix any sound-related issues that arise
  • Tear down and pack up the equipment

We utilize a service plan to list the details of the service. Throughout our services, there are multiple elements, including worship, a message, and multiple speaking elements; all of these details are clearly listed in our planning center service plan, which you will receive a copy of. You must remain at the console during the service to ensure no cues are missed. There must be a high level of attention to detail during these services. We do everything with excellence!

Reporting Structure

Audio Engineers are part of our Production Team and report to the Central Production Director. They also work closely with the Locationโ€™s Worship and Production Team.

Time

We expect audio engineers to show up on time and be attentive the entire time they are on the job.

Each Sunday is approximately 6 hours.

  • Epic Center City: 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Epic King of Prussia: 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Epic Roxborough: 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Scheduling

  • We use a scheduling app called Planning Center. Within this program, you will create a profile and block out dates when you are not available. You are required to accept or decline specific dates that are requested of you. We typically send out requests 1 month in advance, but please remain flexible.
  • If you are going to be absent from a date you have already accepted, you must inform the Central Production Director and your Locationโ€™s Production Director. Direct communication must be made before your time away is recognized.

Payment

  • Our rate is $150 per Sunday. There will be no payment for training on the first Sunday.
  • Late arrival and early departure may result in a prorated check (with time absent subtracted from your paycheck). Our Production Directors and Location Pastors will be aware of arrival and departure times.
  • Any work you do for Epic outside of a Sunday morning is considered volunteer unless otherwise arranged.
  • We will send you a check once a month, unless otherwise arranged.

More than anything, weโ€™re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, works well with people, and understands that great production serves a greater purpose. Sundays at Epic move quickly, and we value people who can bring both technical excellence and a great attitude to the team.

If youโ€™re someone who loves audio, enjoys working with a team, and wants to help create excellent, distraction-free environments where people can engage with whatโ€™s happening, weโ€™d love to hear from you!
