Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Little Rock Career Climb Internship Program provides young adults with meaningful, hands-on work experience across a variety of City departments, colleges and university, community organizations, and partner agencies. Interns gain practical job skills, explore potential career paths, and support community-focused initiatives that help advance the well-being of Little Rock residents. This is accomplished by empowering residents to unlock their potential and thrive through innovative careers, internships, and apprenticeship opportunities that foster a skilled and vibrant workforce.
This position is not designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is not subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Essential Functions
The City of Little Rock's Career Climb initiative includes Apprenticeships & Internships aimed at preparing the workforce for tomorrow.
Apprenticeship Outcomes:
- Participants receive structured, hands-on training in high-demand industries.
- This component enhances their knowledge while they earn.
- Apprenticeships offer a mix of paid on-the-job experience and classroom instruction.
- Participants develop specialized skills and earn industry-recognized credentials.
Learning Outcomes
During the internship, participants will:
โข Develop workplace skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, and customer service.
โข Gain exposure to various career fields within City government and community organizations.
โข Build confidence, responsibility, and problem-solving abilities.
โข Strengthen their resume and expand their professional network.
Work Environment
Work settings vary by placement and may include office environments, community centers, outdoor locations, libraries, administrative departments, or partner nonprofit organizations.
Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a High School Diploma or GED.
