Litigation Associate (Insurance Defence/Construction) (3-7 years) Toronto/Ottawa


Our Client

Our client is a rapidly growing, litigation boutique seeking to add an Associate to its expanding team. The firm offers flexibility with a hybrid work model in Toronto (two days per week in the office) and a fully remote option for lawyers based in Ottawa.


Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on a diverse litigation practice with a significant focus on property & casualty insurance defence, including:

  • Professional liability (Errors & Omissions)
  • Directors' & Officers' liability
  • Product liability
  • Construction disputes, including liens, holdbacks, delay claims, defects, omissions, and contractual disputes
  • Cybersecurity and incident response matters
  • Tort litigation
  • Fraud claims
  • Historical abuse litigation


This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise across multiple litigation areas while building a broad and sophisticated practice.


Requirements

  • 3โ€“7 years of insurance defence litigation experience
  • Strong advocacy, analytical, and written communication skills
  • Interest in developing a broad litigation practice with a focus on property & casualty insurance matters
  • Candidates with experience in insurance defence who are looking to expand into construction, coverage, cybersecurity, or historical abuse litigation are encouraged to apply
  • Private practice experience is strongly preferred


Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary
  • 1,750-hour billable target
  • Uncapped performance-based bonus structure, with bonus opportunities increasing as billable targets are exceeded
