What types of assets or inventory might I work with in a Liquidation role?
In a Liquidation position, you may work with a wide variety of assets depending on the company and industry—ranging from retail merchandise, surplus inventory, and equipment, to real estate holdings and intangible assets. Your responsibilities can include assessing asset value, coordinating sales via auctions or direct negotiations, and overseeing the transfer or disposal processes. The work environment is often fast-paced with tight deadlines, especially during company wind-downs or restructures. You will frequently collaborate with legal teams, creditors, and logistics professionals to ensure all transactions are transparent, timely, and compliant with relevant regulations. This role offers valuable exposure to asset management and can open doors for advancement into higher-level finance or operations positions.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Liquidation position, and why are they important?
To succeed in a Liquidation role, you need strong analytical skills, a background in finance or accounting, and a solid understanding of asset valuation and disposition processes. Familiarity with liquidation software, auction platforms, and ERP systems is often required, along with certifications such as CPA or relevant financial credentials. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical for liaising with stakeholders and managing multiple projects. These skills are essential as liquidation professionals must maximize asset recovery, maintain compliance, and ensure a smooth transition for all parties involved.
What is a Liquidation job?
A Liquidation job involves managing the process of selling off excess, discontinued, or distressed inventory to recover value for a company. This can include working with wholesalers, auction houses, or direct-to-consumer sales channels. Responsibilities may involve pricing strategy, inventory assessment, negotiation with buyers, and coordinating logistics. The goal is to efficiently turn unsold goods into revenue while minimizing losses.

Position Description
The Director of Government-Guaranteed Loan Servicing and Liquidation is a senior operational leader responsible for the strategic direction, performance, risk management, and continued build-out of iBusiness Funding's servicing and liquidation platform. This individual will oversee servicing operations for multi-billion-dollar portfolios of SBA 7(a), USDA, and other commercial or government-guaranteed loans and will lead a large, multi-layered organization through managers, team leads, and specialized servicing professionals.
The Director will establish a best-in-class operating model capable of supporting significant portfolio growth, multiple lender and investor relationships, complex regulatory requirements, and high service expectations. The role requires a proven leader who can evaluate the current organization, identify gaps, implement scalable processes and controls, optimize staffing and workflows, introduce technology and automation, and build the management infrastructure required for a high-performing servicing organization.
This leader will serve as a subject-matter expert and executive partner on portfolio management, servicing, special assets, workouts, liquidation, compliance, audit readiness, and operational risk. The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in SBA and government-guaranteed lending, commercial credit and portfolio management, and the leadership of large servicing or lending operations.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Executive Leadership, Strategy, and Organizational Development
- Set the vision, strategy, operating model, and multi-year roadmap for the Servicing and Liquidation Departments, aligning department capabilities with portfolio growth, lender commitments, risk appetite, and company objectives.
- Lead a large, multi-layered organization through Servicing and Liquidation Managers, team leads, and subject-matter experts; establish clear accountability, decision rights, escalation paths, and management routines.
- Assess organizational structure, spans of control, staffing levels, role clarity, and skill gaps; implement hiring, succession, training, and leadership-development plans that support scale and continuity.
- Establish a performance-oriented culture centered on ownership, regulatory discipline, borrower and lender service, continuous improvement, and timely resolution of issues.
- Advise executive leadership on portfolio performance, staffing needs, operational capacity, material servicing risks, regulatory developments, and strategic investments.
Multi-Billion-Dollar Portfolio and Servicing Oversight
- Direct end-to-end post-closing servicing, portfolio management, special servicing, workout, and liquidation activities for multi-billion-dollar SBA, USDA, and other commercial or government-guaranteed loan portfolios.
- Ensure accurate and timely administration of payment processing, remittances, escrow and reserve activity, borrower requests, collateral and insurance monitoring, financial reporting, covenant tracking, annual reviews, servicing actions, payoff and release processing, charge-offs, recoveries, and guaranty-related requirements.
- Alongside our risk function, oversee delinquent, problem, and defaulted loans, including workout strategies, deferments, modifications, forbearance, litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, settlements, collateral liquidation, recoveries, and guaranty purchase packages.
- Monitor portfolio-level trends and concentrations, including delinquency, defaults, charge-offs, recoveries, servicing exceptions, aging, borrower complaints, and emerging credit risks; ensure timely escalation and corrective action.
- Provide senior-level judgment and approval on complex, high-dollar, sensitive, or precedent-setting servicing and liquidation matters.
Operational Excellence, Process Transformation, and Scalability
- Evaluate existing servicing and liquidation processes and implement practical, measurable changes that improve capacity, quality, speed, control, and customer experience.
- Design and maintain standardized procedures, service-level expectations, workflow ownership, quality-control checkpoints, approval authorities, exception-management protocols, and business-continuity plans.
- Develop capacity models, staffing forecasts, productivity standards, and operating metrics appropriate for a high-volume servicing organization supporting billions of dollars in assets.
- Lead change-management initiatives across teams and functions, ensuring that new processes are well designed, documented, trained, adopted, and sustained.
- Benchmark department performance against leading bank, non-bank servicer, and government-guaranteed lending practices and continuously raise operating standards.
Compliance, Audit Readiness, and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with current SBA SOPs, the SBA Servicing and Liquidation Matrix, USDA requirements, lender and investor agreements, internal credit policies, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
- Maintain a strong control environment with complete, accurate, and audit-ready loan files, documented servicing decisions, appropriate approvals, reliable system records, and effective issue remediation.
- Lead preparation for SBA and USDA reviews, lender and investor audits, regulatory examinations, internal audits, and quality-assurance reviews; own timely and sustainable remediation of findings.
- Partner with Compliance, Legal, Credit, Risk, Accounting, Treasury, and outside counsel to identify and mitigate operational, credit, legal, reputational, and guaranty-repair or denial risk.
- Establish quality-assurance and quality-control programs that use sampling, root-cause analysis, trend reporting, and corrective-action tracking to reduce recurring errors and losses.
Technology, Data, and Management Reporting
- Partner with Technology and Product teams to optimize loan servicing systems, workflow tools, document management, reporting, data quality, integrations, and automation.
- Identify and implement appropriate automation and AI-enabled solutions while maintaining sound controls, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and clear human accountability.
- In partnership with Optimization teams, build executive dashboards and management reporting covering portfolio performance, service levels, productivity, capacity, quality, exceptions, complaints, audit findings, recoveries, and key risk indicators.
- Use data to diagnose operational issues, measure the effectiveness of process changes, and improve forecasting and decision-making.
Cross-Functional and External Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the senior servicing liaison to lender clients, investors, SBA and USDA personnel, outside counsel, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Origination, Underwriting, Closing, Credit, Capital Markets, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Collections, Product, and Technology to ensure effective handoffs and consistent lifecycle management.
- Build trusted relationships with lender and investor partners by delivering transparent reporting, timely issue resolution, strong controls, and consistently high service levels.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Minimum 12 years of progressive commercial lending, portfolio management, loan servicing, special assets, or comparable banking experience, including at least 7 years directly supporting SBA or other government-guaranteed loan programs.
- Minimum 7 years of leadership experience, including direct responsibility for managers and large or multi-layered operational teams; experience leading teams of 10 or more employees strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated responsibility for servicing or portfolio management of at least 5,000 loan units and $1 billion in commercial, SBA, USDA, or other government-guaranteed loans; experience with multi-billion-dollar portfolios strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in SBA 7(a) post-closing servicing and liquidation requirements, SBA SOPs, the SBA Servicing and Liquidation Matrix, guaranty purchase and repair/denial risk, and SBA systems such as E-Tran and CAFS.
- Relevant experience with USDA or other government-guaranteed lending programs and related servicing, reporting, workout, and liquidation requirements.
- Strong commercial credit foundation, including financial analysis, loan structuring, documentation, collateral, covenants, risk ratings, annual reviews, problem assets, workouts, and recoveries.
- Proven success building, restructuring, or materially improving a servicing, portfolio management, special assets, or lending operations function.
- Documented experience implementing process changes, operational controls, quality programs, workflow automation, servicing technology, and management reporting in a regulated lending environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through growth and change, develop strong managers, hold teams accountable, and influence executives and cross-functional partners.
- Exceptional judgment, analytical ability, executive communication, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15 or more years of commercial banking, government-guaranteed lending, servicing, portfolio management, or special assets experience.
- Prior Director, Senior Vice President, Group Manager, Head of Servicing, or comparable leadership experience within a bank, non-bank lender, loan servicer, or government-guaranteed lending platform.
- Experience overseeing both performing and non-performing portfolios, including liquidation and recovery functions.
- Experience integrating acquired portfolios, onboarding new lender clients, converting servicing systems, or scaling operations through rapid portfolio growth.
- Experience with commercial real estate, business and industrial lending, secondary-market requirements, and complex collateral structures.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and highly relevant experience.
Success Measures
- A scalable, well-controlled servicing organization capable of supporting multi-billion-dollar portfolios and continued growth without deterioration in service, quality, or compliance.
- Improved portfolio reporting, operating visibility, productivity, service levels, and management accountability.
- Minimalization of servicing errors, aged exceptions, audit findings, borrower complaints, and guaranty-risk exposure.
- Strong manager and employee development, succession depth, retention, and consistent execution across teams.
- Successful implementation and adoption of process, technology, and automation improvements that produce measurable operational benefits and support resourcing and scale.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000-$190,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. iBusiness Funding provides a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
