JOB SUMMARY
The Embedded Linux Engineer will be responsible for developing, porting, validating, and supporting embedded Linux platforms across Intel/x86-based hardware environments. This role focuses on system bring-up, Linux kernel and device driver development, platform migration, bootloader customization, and embedded system validation. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux distributions, hardware-software integration, and system-level troubleshooting while contributing to the delivery of reliable and scalable edge computing solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop, customize, and maintain embedded Linux platforms and system software.
• Perform Linux kernel configuration, development, debugging, and optimization activities.
• Design, develop, and support Linux device drivers for embedded hardware platforms.
• Configure and customize bootloaders to support target hardware requirements.
• Execute system bring-up activities for new embedded hardware platforms.
• Support platform migration, operating system upgrades, and Linux porting initiatives.
• Troubleshoot and resolve low-level hardware, kernel, driver, and boot-related issues.
• Work with Intel/x86-based embedded systems to support product development and deployment.
• Build, customize, and maintain embedded Linux distributions using Ubuntu, Yocto, or similar frameworks.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, QA, and product engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
• Develop and execute system validation plans to ensure product quality, functionality, reliability, and performance.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, validation reports, and troubleshooting guides.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for system-level issues.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to embedded system architecture, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Assist with deployment, production support, and lifecycle maintenance activities for embedded platforms.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related technical field.
• Strong hands-on experience with Embedded Linux development.
• Experience working with:
o Linux Kernel Development
o Linux Device Drivers
o Bootloaders
• Experience performing system bring-up, platform migration, and operating system porting activities.
• Hands-on experience with embedded Linux distributions such as:
o Ubuntu
o Yocto
o Similar Embedded Linux Platforms
• Experience supporting Intel/x86-based embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of embedded operating systems, hardware-software interaction, and system architecture.
• Experience developing test plans, executing validation activities, and verifying embedded system functionality.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills at the kernel, driver, and platform levels.
• Experience working in embedded software development environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with AWS IoT services and cloud-connected embedded systems.
• Experience supporting edge computing platforms and distributed device ecosystems.
• Experience implementing or maintaining Over-the-Air (OTA) software update solutions.
• Familiarity with FleetEdge or similar edge computing frameworks.
• Experience working with IoT device management and remote monitoring platforms.
• Knowledge of embedded security, secure boot, and software lifecycle management.
• Experience developing automation scripts and deployment tools.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies and edge deployment architectures.
• Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
CERTIFICATIONS
• Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE) preferred.
• Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) preferred.
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred.
• AWS Certified Developer - Associate (preferred).
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (preferred).
