Job description

Overview

LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a Senior Red Hat System Administrator or Engineer to support on-prem IT infrastructures running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in a virtualized environment. You will provide second-level engineering support for systems delivering enterprise cybersecurity services in a dev/test/prod deployment environment supporting critical FAA cybersecurity capabilities. The Senior Red Hat System Administrator/Engineer will work as part of a dynamic team of network and application administrators and engineers and will be responsible for developing and maintaining RHEL deployments supporting cybersecurity applications. You’ll work with teammates to design, configure, test, and deploy automation of tasks and integration of RHEL into the infrastructure ecosystem. You will apply strong security best practices and assist with developing an approach for patching, upgrades, and tuning when system maintenance is required. The role also includes development and management of container technologies and the integration of DevSecOps solutions, plus the development and maintenance of operations-related documentation (configuration data, change requests, installation procedures, knowledge base articles, SOPs, engineering diagrams, and test plans).

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Requirements development, analysis and supporting comprehensive trade studies
  • Engineer or design storage requirements to support virtual deployments of applications using RHEL
  • Provision, scale, and maintain enterprise container platforms (e.g., Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes)
  • Manage cluster networking, persistent storage integration, and node health
  • Design and maintain sophisticated Ansible playbooks and roles to automate the entire lifecycle—from bare OS provisioning and VM deployment to container cluster configuration and application rollouts
  • Implement and enforce DISA STIG standards across both the Linux operating system layer and the container runtime environments
  • Act as the highest escalation point for complex technical issues spanning the operating system, hypervisor, network, and container orchestrator
  • Apply system engineering techniques to solve and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities
  • Experience working in a multi-platform (Microsoft, RHEL, VMware) infrastructure
  • Experience with RHEL 8+, RHHI, OpenShift, Ansible
  • Experience with using ticketing systems and Tier II or higher helpdesk
  • Knowledge of Linux iptables, networking configuration, and DNS
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and deploying RHEL environments
  • Ability to work independently and in a group to resolve technical issues in a dynamic environment
Qualifications
  • Required: 10+ years of experience performing Red Hat Linux systems engineering, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience architecting and managing production-grade Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift environments
  • Proficiency managing traditional virtualized IT infrastructure (storage, LVM, networking) while simultaneously supporting container technologies and microservices
  • Demonstrated experience with hardening enterprise environments using DISA STIGs, utilizing tools like OpenSCAP, SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC), or automated remediation playbooks
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Computer Science preferred
Preferred
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent
Work Requirements
  • Work location: William J Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City, NJ or Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Position is: Completely in-person/on-site
  • Work Hours: 40/week
  • Travel: Minimal, but possible
  • Physical requirements:
  • Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance
  • Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms
  • Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision
  • Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues
  • Background check: Must have Secret Clearance
Compensation

Compensation is presented as a guideline and is based on factors including education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, location, and clearance level. The posted range is for full-time roles (40 hours/week). Benefits are offered to all employees who work 30+ hours per week: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Annual Leave, and Holidays.
