Job Description - Systems Administrator (mid-level)
Location: Montrรฉal, QC or Philadelphia, PA
Department: IT
Reports to: IT Infrastructure Manager
Works under the guidance of: Lead Systems Administrator / Architect
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday during regular business hours, with the ability to perform administrative duties and maintenance outside business hours as required. #LI-Hybrid
Role Summary
The mid-level Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and operational support of the organization's Windows, Active Directory, and Azure environments. This role provides L2/L3 escalation within the Infrastructure and Security team and works under the guidance of the Lead SysAdmin/Architect to ensure stable, secure, and reliable infrastructure operations across North America. The ideal candidate brings strong systems administration experience with solid Azure skills and good networking fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Perform daily operational tasks in Azure/Entra, including VM management, VNet/NSG configuration, storage, monitoring, and backups.
  • Support and troubleshoot issues involving Azure hybrid identity (Entra Connect).
  • Provide L2/L3 escalation for systems-related incidents and service requests.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity; apply patches and updates.
  • Perform backup/restore operations and ensure recovery readiness.
  • Conduct log analysis and root-cause troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and OS-level logs.
  • Collaborate with other SysAdmins, network, security, web/application, and SQL teams.
  • Support infrastructure-related components of business applications and peripheral systems (e.g., integrations, printers, and warehouse/RF devices).
  • Follow standards and direction set by the Lead SysAdmin/Architect.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 3-6 years of hands-on experience in a Systems Administrator role, including at least 3 years working with Microsoft Azure in an operational capacity
  • Strong experience with Windows Server and Active Directory administration (users, groups, OUs, GPO basics, DNS/DHCP).
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, subnets, routing basics, firewall concepts, DNS).
  • Operational experience with Microsoft Azure, including:
  • Virtual Machines
  • VNets, NSGs, routing basics
  • Azure Backup
  • Azure Monitor and basic Log Analytics
  • Hybrid identity components (Entra Connect)
  • Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Experience supporting enterprise or mid-sized environments (1000-5000 users preferred).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities, especially log-driven debugging.
  • Basic PowerShell scripting for administration tasks.
  • Ability to handle L2/L3 support independently while collaborating with senior team members.
