Linux Troubleshooting information

What is Linux troubleshooting?

Linux troubleshooting refers to the process of identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues that occur within a Linux operating system or its applications. This can involve addressing problems related to system performance, hardware compatibility, software errors, network configuration, or security concerns. Effective troubleshooting requires knowledge of Linux commands, log files, and system architecture. Professionals use a variety of tools and diagnostic techniques to isolate and fix issues, ensuring the system runs smoothly and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Linux Troubleshooting, and why are they important?

To excel in Linux Troubleshooting, you need strong expertise in Linux operating systems, shell scripting, and system administration, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Bash, system monitoring utilities, configuration management systems, and certifications such as CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) are highly beneficial. Analytical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving skills distinguish top performers in this role. These abilities are crucial for quickly diagnosing and resolving technical issues, ensuring system reliability, and supporting organizational IT infrastructure.

What is the difference between Linux Troubleshooting vs Network Administrator?

Common search & comparison intentDiagnosing Linux system issuesManaging and troubleshooting network infrastructure

Linux Troubleshooting focuses on diagnosing and fixing issues within Linux operating systems, while Network Administrators manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure. Both roles require technical certifications and often work in similar environments, but their core responsibilities differ—system vs. network management.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Linux Troubleshooting roles, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in Linux Troubleshooting roles often encounter challenges such as diagnosing complex system issues, dealing with diverse hardware and software environments, and responding to urgent outages or performance problems. Managing these challenges typically involves staying up to date with the latest Linux distributions and tools, practicing strong documentation habits, and collaborating closely with other IT teams to share knowledge and resolve issues efficiently. Developing strong problem-solving skills and leveraging community resources can also help troubleshooters address issues more effectively and minimize downtime.

This role combines deep technical expertise with an emphasis on project leadership responsibilities.

Joining 27Global is an exciting high-growth opportunity offering a competitive base salary, performance bonuses, and variable compensation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as senior technical expert for cloud engineering execution, troubleshooting, and production readiness across Azure projects
  • Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to present implementation progress, technical details, and operational considerations in partnership with Cloud Architects
  • Manage and optimize cost, scalability, and performance of cloud infrastructure in alignment with approved architectural standards and best practices
  • Implement cloud solutions using infrastructure as code based on approved architectural designs, ensuring consistency with defined standards and patterns
  • Formally and informally mentor junior cloud engineers
  • Ensure cloud solutions meet reliability, security, and operational standards prior to production handoff
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide SRE support
Requirements:

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure (Azure)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting networking, Windows/Linux OS, and various cloud services

  • Demonstrated experience with containers, microservice architectures, and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience operating and supporting production systems at scale
    • Incident response and production support
    • Monitoring, logging, and alerting platforms (e.g., Cloud-native tools, New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus)
    • Linux systems and cloud networking fundamentals
    • Experience creating/updating runbooks, operational documentation, and onboarding standards
  • Experience with deploying/configuring relational and NoSQL databases (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)

Ways to stand out:

  • Understanding of SRE best practices
  • Understanding of Databricks and Data pipelines
  • Experience interpreting and contributing implementation detail to cloud architectural diagrams for complex environments
  • Experience presenting cloud implementation details, operational considerations, and reliability tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in a client-facing role, working directly with clients from multiple levels of the organization; often presenting and documenting client environment suggestions and improvements
  • Experience with cloud security, such as setting security controls (security groups, profiles, permissions, and key management strategy)
  • Experience with deploying/configuring management tools (Puppet, Chef, and Ansible)

Why 27G?:

  • Four-time award winner of Best Place to Work by the Kansas City Business Journal
  • A casual and fun small business work environment
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, time off, profit sharing, and quarterly bonus potential
  • Commitment to continued learning through development, research, and certifications
