Linux Systems Automation Engineer
The Opportunity:
As an Automation Engineer on our team, you will directly support national defense missions by engineering, deploying, and continuously improving critical infrastructure across Red Hat Enterprise Linux ( RHEL ) platforms. You will design and evolve enterprise-scale monitoring and automation solutions, collaborate with architects and engineers across adjacent technologies, and drive modernization initiatives in cloud, automation, virtualization, and data center operations. In this role, you will bring your Linux automation expertise to bear in building secure, hardened, and scalable RHEL environments for a government client, developing automated workflows using Python, Ansible, and modern virtualization technologies.
What You'll Work On:
  • Maintain, secure, and optimize RHEL-based systems, including patching, STIG implementation, and hardening.
  • Design and develop Python scripts and tooling for automation, monitoring, and compliance reporting.
  • Manage and support virtualized environments such as KVM, QEMU, or Proxmox, and containerized workloads for development and testing.
  • Implement and maintain security compliance measures such as STIGs, vulnerability scanning, and remediation pipelines.
  • Support and improve network monitoring and testing infrastructure.
  • Apply configuration management best practices using Ansible for automated provisioning and configuration.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation such as system descriptions, implementation guides, and user guides.
  • Advance the team's adoption of automated testing, including unit, integration, and performance.

You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience with RHEL administration, including patching, updates, system hardening, and offline system maintenance
  • 3+ years of experience leveraging Python for automation and custom tooling
  • Experience with security compliance, implementing STIGs such as RHEL, SQL, and VM, performing security scanning, and driving remediation
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, including hypervisors such as KVM, QEMU, or Proxmox
  • Experience with configuration management using tools such as Ansible
  • Experience with Git version control for managing infrastructure code and scripts
  • Ability to support on-site delivery and collaborate with government stakeholders
  • Secret clearance
  • HS diploma or GED
  • CSWF compliant IAT Level II Certification such as Security+ CE, RedHat OS, or CCNA Certification

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with container technologies such as Podman, Docker, or similar tools
  • Experience with network monitoring tools such as Zabbix
  • Experience building automated testing frameworks, including unit, integration, and performance
  • Experience with SQL database administration and security hardening
  • Experience using network testing tools such as iperf
  • Experience with GNS3 or network simulation environments
  • Experience using Python web frameworks such as Flask
  • Possession of strong technical writing skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, CS, or a related field

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,900.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
